YO GEORGIANS! :)

My DD12 wants to pick up a half dozen chicks of different breeds (little bitty ones that go in the brooder). She also would love to take pictures, super close ups on animals. She got a new camera for Christmas and it isn't like when we were kids and had to pay for film.

Will there be lots of different kinds of chicks available for swap (trading pictures of former presidents for them)? Egg chickens only, she won't let me put one in a pot.
I have some white Silkies and some mixed chicks that turned 6 weeks old Thursday. They will need to stay in a brooder another couple of weeks with the weather as cold as it's been. I can post a picture of them if you are interested.

Well, if she wants to come out to our place tomorrow there are 2 miniature horse mares, 1 miniature horse colt who is about 7 months old now. 8 goats. 2 miniature donkeys. LOTS of birds, (geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys) Plenty of photo ops I'm sure as all of our animals are social. Heck, most of them even like carcar.

I am certainly considering it. We aren't far away and she really likes animals.

I have lots of chicks but they will be mixes. All my chickens are purebreds, but since the rooster is a different breed, too, they will be mixes. I have two naked necks, Wyandotte mixes, easter eggers, olive eggers, isbar mix, marans mix, etc. Let me know if you are interested. I have 30 to choose from. Most are 10 days old, 6 are 2 days old.

Trust me, we don't worry about pedigree. We raised six from day or two old chicks last year (bought at our TSC) but two of them turned out to be roosters. Hmm, how did that happen, I paid the extra dollar for females. We'd like to find at least one chicken that will lay white eggs. Right now we only get brown and blue eggs.

We've had a Silkie, I know that many like them but we found that ours wouldn't roost and were anti-social with our other chickens.

Oh wow strange. I have 3 Silkie roosters and 3 Silkie hens and they all roost with 15 of our other breed chickens. We have a ramp that goes up to the roost and they go up it and either jump down in the morning or go down the ramp. I just had one of the Silkie hens and a Buff Orpington hen to hatch and raise the 6 week old chicks I have together in the same nest box/brooder area of our large coop.

Cliff, didn't you say something about people having to have health certificates and shot records and stuff?  Is that still going to be the case?

There will be an inspector on site doing visual inspections and takin blood samples from any potentially diseased animals.

I think it was because we only had one Silkie. Maybe she just didn't fit in with the others. We had to keep her segregated almost all the time because they picked on her. She spent more time in the greenhouse (our back up chicken house) than in the coop.
