YO GEORGIANS! :)

On the positive side, going forward you will now be able to advertise and sell birds. Keep in mind that from a tax standpoint, all of your supplies, feed and stock may be deductible as costs of doing business, selling birds.

I wish I had taken the time now to fill out the paper work there. Ugh! I will be sending mine in this week!

First of all, THANK YOU, CLIFF! for making it happen! It was a lot of fun! Second, it was so good to finally meet all you great people! My big regret is that we were all so busy, we didn't have time to sit and talk chicken! I sold my rooster, 30 chicks, hatching eggs, most of my eating eggs, and the little coop we took! Got rid of all the Styrofoam coolers, too! And here are my great new babies!
My new Exchequer Leghorn. Thank you, jdduck! I love her, she is so beautiful and sweet!

And here is my new little Showgirl! She is soooo tiny!

Special thanks to Valleychick for helping me with the baby chicks! I ended up selling all of them!

So tired! On the way home, had to buy new battery for the truck and meet our son for dinner and then unpacked. Ugh. Going to bed now! But, thanks everyone!
Your welcome Flower. I wish I had remembered to get the info on the fodder. Your new hen is beautiful and I got to hold your tiny chick. So sweet!

Sorry I replied to everything so late. I fell asleep on the couch with my computer in my lap. DH thought it was funny.

That is what happens when I get up at 5:30am and don't have a cat nap at some point during the day. Having Thyroid disease is a pain the backside!

@GAchickennewbie thank you for helping me with the box of chicks! It was great talking with you and I hope you were able to get the tanks cleaned in time for the bad weather. If you can will you send me a picture of the barley you got from Flower? I want to see if I can get my local farm supply to get some. I'm going to try sunflower seed also.

@jdduck I wish I had gotten to meet and talk with you too. My DH said he spoke with you for a bit. I guess I was off hunting for hens at that time.

Growing Fodder for your Animals

What is Fodder?
Fodder is growing greenery, usually barley, wheat, BOSS, alfalfa, lentils and other grasses without soil to feed to your livestock.
Why grow fodder?
  1. You can feed it to any livestock
  2. Saves on feed bill. One pound of seed = 5-8 pounds of fodder feed
  3. Healthy for your animals
What you need to grow fodder:
  4. A container to soak your seeds in
  5. A strainer
  6. Fodder trays. (7-10) You can buy fodder trays online or you can make your own from whatever you may have at home.Don’t let the trays be too deep as the air can’t circulate and may contribute to mold.Your trays will need to have drain holes in the bottom. You want your seeds to stay damp, but not soaking.Google fodder systems and choose your favorite trays and set-up.
    How to grow fodder:
  7. Put your seed in your soak container and add water so that you have 2” of water over the top of your seeds. If you are using wheat, you may need to rinse the seeds several times to get the glue like substance rinsed away.Wheat can mold easily if this is not rinsed well.Soak the seeds at least 5 hours but not longer than 24 hours.
  8. Use your strainer to help you rinse the seeds again.REMOVE ANY SEEDS THAT ARE FLOATING AS THESE ARE DEAD AND WON’T SPROUT AND WILL ONLY CONTRIBUTE TO MOLD.
  9. Place your seeds into your trays.Don’t have more seeds than ½” deep. The seeds will continue to swell and if your seeds are deeper than this, you may get mold.
  10. Mist your fodder at least twice a day.The goal is to keep the seeds damp.Fodder grows best in temperatures between 60-70 degrees. It does not require a lot of light.
  11. The fodder should be ready on day 7, so I make one tray a day and feed my chickens one tray a day. That keeps the cycle going.
What seeds are best to use:
*Barley
*Wheat
*BOSS - Black Oiled Sunflower Seeds
*Alfalfa

I already have a GATE card so my farm business was established with the state prior to now. Since you need to paperwork of any kind to sell eggs on your property I was already able to deduct feed, etc. in order to run my eggs for eating business. Now there is even more open to possible deduction since I can sell the birds. Woohoo!

I thought you had to set up an actual LLC for that?
Nope.Though from a personal protection standpoint it does eventually become a good idea to set up some sort of corporation to protect your personal assets. Have to balance your business income with the costs of it all too though.

Sooooo not looking forward to the next couple of days. Argh!!

Don't even try blaming our late arival on me you goober. That was all you.

Bite it, ya stink turd.

Hey Cliff ... she sold me a "Poultry Dealer" license. She also told me that I was free to sell my birds once it was signed and paid for. Hmmm
Without going into detail in a public forum there were lots of grey areas yesterday. I can discuss further in private.

That's good. Did you notice that water acts as a laxative for them? You put them in the water.... they immediately poop. You let the water out and refill with fresh water.... they poop. It doesn't matter how many times you do it, they poop. Its amazing how much they can produce.
LOL yes he did but want to know a funny story? My daughters bath time was cut short two nights ago for the same reason.
