I was about to turn in for the night when I looked over at the brooder and saw the EE chick knock one of the Silkie chicks off the roost. It took a few minutes but the Silkie got back on the roost and pecked the EE.

now its time to make a hat.Y'all are clearly not as excited about my successful raccoon trapping as I am. That's one less little bandit eating my birds.
. I hope it does not have a mate to come for more hens.
First time in years that the water in the house froze so no animals got water until almost sunset. I thought "solar snow melters" would work to get them some but the condensation seen on the underside of the plastic froze with the wind! Brooder lamps are excellent for under the house water pipes;-) Predators are waking up and hungry so everyone look out. I've had a cunning elderly neighbor that pretends to be helpless stealthily rob eggs from an unprotected broody, seen BIG coon tracks at the BO door and an owl checking out every coop including the one with dogs in it. (The elderly neighbor accidentally told on himself in November when he said my roo tried to attack him when he went to check his mail. None of my roos were out of the coops and last I checked he doesn't have to come waaay up the ravine through the woods and cross my property to get to his mailbox in front of his door down the road!) On a good note 7 of the Lav Orp eggs were fertile and all 7 were rocking after lockdown yesterday. I've already got money on the most active one being a male;-)75° dropping to 50°? Come on and visit with me- windchills made it -15 with gusts of -24° yesterday![]()

He also brings "Amy' in the house and sits her next to his computer on her own special perch and she has her own bowl of water and super scratch! Amy loves to try to catch the curser on the screen when he uses it. Now, I don't bring my chickens in the house. Just he does. So, all that stuff about us being crazy for our chickens and something is wrong with us.......well, I think he caught the 'disease'!!! LOL
