Hello

I'm new here, and have almost a year with my flock of 6 BYCs.

I'm relocating from Roanoke, VA to most likely Canton, GA. I'm trying to find out BYC friendly parts of that area.

Any help appreciated!
Welcome to Georgia rcscia, Loganville here hope you enjoy the poultry parade and enjoy :)

I lost my Toppy Game rooster today to one of the neighbor's pitbull dogs. A deputy came out and basically told me that all I could do was shoot the dog if it came on my property and file a civil suit. There isn't a leash law out in the county of Wilkes, just inside the city. My DH is working out of town so I'm not going to tell him until he gets home because he will be furious as am I.

Sorry for your loss

He was a real beauty. Never understood why people think just because they live in the county/country they can let their dogs roam even with neighbors close. I've told my neighbors that if my dog gets loose and goes on their property causing problems to shoot- do what ya gotta do. It isn't that I don't love my own dog, it is that I respect boundaries. I know what I'd do depending on what another's dog is doing and expect my dog to be disciplined enough to do right. (My 7 yr old shelter rescue would kill chickens in a second if she thought I wasn't looking!) Hope you find a handsome replacement.

lol I thought I was the only one who used a fish tank

It doesn't last long... they grow fast. We have a bigger brooder that stays on our screen porch. We love to have them close to us when they are small. It confounds the heck out of our yellow lab, who wants to love on them. Not sure they are ready for her type of "love"

Unfortunately that goes on all the time. If you have a strong stomach there are humane society youtube videos where truckloads of calves are 'done in'. Wasteful if u ask me with beef going for premium on the hoof here. Can't they give the unwanted calves away? I know there are breed differences for what u want just like chickens but they'll still put on meat, just not as much.

No I think I will stay away from those vids, I was thinking meat too when it got a older. I guess cause of the size of the animal I really didn't think about it, but when I get too many roos I grow them out and look for the best and then I do sell them and I know they are food but least I love them for about 6 months,
Your friend's husband kinda sounds like a jerk. He does know there's an easy way to keep his dog from getting pregnant, right? That would upset me, too.
He expects others to keep their dogs home and he says he's not fixing her because of a roamer, I told them of a mobile vet clinic that only charges now it's $35 to fix a dog. They go all over GA so if anyone needs the info PM me, they maybe in your area. It includes rabies shot if needed, chipping and fixing, weight limit is 65 pounds, but now she is over the limit and he didn't want to trust his dog to one of those, my animals did just fine and I used catsnip until I found my vet and she charges just a little more, so I take them to her.

I'm so sorry about Duke, yep I'd change to something other than bird shot too. my DH has a gun by the back door cause we have had a problem with a neighbors dog too.
