YO GEORGIANS! :)

Took some pictures of my gang today (for posterity, you know. And to post the whole lot on the "Is this a rooster" Thread!) I won't swamp you with all the pictures, but here's a few of my favorites! One of my favorite Wyandottes, Topaz. This RIR chick is named MediumSpicy, and she did NOT want to get off my hand during picture taking. :) Usually one of the first to run over to get treats, too. Teensy Acorn! My silver duckwing OEGB. Everybody's at least three weeks old today. :)
Well Topaz stands like a Roo! Lol.

I turn stuff over in the chicken yard. The girls, including GAMjr, follow me around to collect the goodies.

Hatch finally over. 41 eggs to start. Lost 1 duck egg the first time the turner turned toward the motor.....have to remember that the duck eggs are just too big....it smashed against the turner. So, had 40 eggs. 7 of the 8 duck eggs hatched. 3 of the olive eggs ended up not fertile. I can't see thru the olive eggs and let them ride, but I autopsied them and they were clear. I hatched 23 chicks and lost 7. All of those lost were in my new bator. I guess I need to tweak it a bit. So, that is 77% rate. Some photos:

So, now what do I do with 50 chicks and ducks! Never realized how much they would eat! What, two weeks til the swap! Help!

Your coop looks great and your chicks look happy.I am still looking at plans my building is on hold until I can make up my mind.if I keep playing around the chicks will be living in my garage
the garage is better than in the kitchen!!! that's where mine have been. The blue americaunas are in the coop, the 3 leghorns and aussies are in the brooder in the kitchen. by next wed, they'll be 4 weeks and 3 weeks, and I'm hoping it'll be warm enough to move them out. I do have a heat lamp out there, clamped and tied off two ways. It's on tonight for the kids.

I managed to get the roosts built, the nest boxes lined and finished out. I didn't put a ramp up to the roosts yet, I didn't want them even thinking about going up there as cold as it's going to get tonight.

I did 16 feet of roosts, one over the other. The only thing I need to do to finish inside is build the poop board (being made out of parts from the brooder), the ramps, and a feeder. I was going to build a PVC feeder, but I think I'm going to do one made like a bird feeder, in between the studs. I'm also going to build one out of a bucket or small barrel with the PVC elbows into the side around it, so I can set that one outside.

I did manage to get some stuff picked up, but the bigger pieces of 'left over' materials are just piled up by the run. It was cool out there today, and the later in the evening it got, the colder that wind became! here's a few pics though I now realize I must have been shivering more than I thought...

the roosts. 2x4 wide side up. I notched the 2x6 for them to set down into, not attached. I can remove for easier cleaning when needed

.

the nest boxes:

the water bucket will go away when I get my permanent water tank and pvc/nipple waterer built on the outside. I do plan to put a 'landing' about even with the nest boxes, then ramp it up to the roosts. The poop board will be 6 or 8 inches under the bottom roost and stick out about 8 inches past. I'll line it with vinyl, and put sand and PDZ in it.

a few outside pics. I was originally going to put up a wall a couple feet inside the double doors, but decided to leave it out, will make it easier to clean out the coop

Just got home from my work trip, and I. Am. Exhausted. I've been in class since 7:30am and in a car since 5:15 PM. :(

Get home to a 95* bator in lockdown.. No action on my eggs so I candled because I just did. All look great except ANOTHER dead MFD. :( .. But they're all small. So, as suspected, my bator temp clearly runs low overall. I'll just be sick if these don't make it out. At LEAST a pair!? :barnie

Oh- and the headache. Forgot that part. :lau

And to specify-- 95* is not what my other bator runs at, lol. This one somehow dropped while I was gone. Certainly has nothing to do with hubby REMOVING THE LID this morning to add water.

Certainly should have recovered from that hours ago ... unless he bumped the thermostat.

Did we ever decide on the day in May for the get together at our place? Since I screwed up and thought we could do the 18th after I got myself all confused. The second Saturday in May is out since that's Cliff's TSC Swap but right now we are open for any of the other Saturdays in May.
You made everyone hate you after toying with them last time. They don't want to play with you anymore.
