YO GEORGIANS! :)

Finished up the new home for the Ameraucanas today and got them moved in after they roosted. They'll be excited to see grass for the next few days, once it's gone I'll start putting in the wood chips and leaves I've collected for the DLM. Think I made the roost too high though, I'll probably go out tomorrow and cut it down a bit

ehhh, I've been cussed at before too, LOL all those sisters. hahaha

Looks Good, Excellent job !

If that was the case they would have to kill our wild birds also.
It very well could have something to do with that and someone getting their pocket stuffed!
No doubt. It's insanity, no matter how you look at it. No doubt there is somebody looking to make a lot (or protect from losing a lot).

thank you! I still have to do nest boxes. I picked up some square frosting buckets from the Wally world deli the other day and was thinking about using them, but they're only 9x11, I'm not sure that would be big enough, although the AM's aren't real big birds.

something else too, I can put up a partition on either end at the first rafter and have a smaller 8x6 area for my wifes bantam MFD's when they're ready to go out there. That will put 6 bantams in right at 50 square feet and leave roughly 120 square feet for the six ameraucanas

Everyday of my life the government want my money, my guns, tell me what I can't say because it's hate speech and not PC, where I can't go because it's federal and if I can go I'm charged so it's back to my money!
Is this in Calhoun or actually the county? Gordon County is being flooded with chicken houses now and that may have something to do with it but in any case you need to post when the meeting is and let's all gather there!

well I think there's way more than that now, although you'd be hard pressed to find any posts from most of that list now in the Yo Georgians threads. There are a few still who post around the site, but most of those are long gone

and no, me and robo didn't run em off........

wow and I thought Polk County was run by a bunch of idiots.

Somebody in business somewhere is behind this, who else would care if you sold a couple dozen eggs a week or a few chicks? No one in the country cares if there's a rooster crowing. I swear if polk county ever goes with anything like this, I'll move to Alabama, or build a big barn, completely enclosed with a mostly clear roof panel roof and take them all inside
The newspaper here is not very good...and the more I think about it I'm thinking "hoping" they are jumping the gun and printing some general discussion at the co comm meeting. It just doesn't make sense...!

On a more serious note: The county where we live (Gordon) is in the process of adopting changes to the ordinance governing back yard chickens. At first blush it is going to be damaging. Public hearings are supposed to be coming soon. The following are some of the changes being proposed:

NO roosters!

Only 6 hens on a half acre and only 6 per each additional half acre for a MAXIMUM NUMBER of 24 chickens.

No selling of chickens/eggs/poultry bi-products (I take that to mean litter)

Chickens must me kept contained in a closed pen.

These are just a few of the things from the paper today...obviously the statutes are being written by people who have no clue of what they are doing...they don't know a thing about raising chickens and have NO IDEA of the passion we chicken people have concerning our birds.

We are a rural county and really need none or very few regulations concerning back yard chickens. This coming at a time when most cities/counties are relaxing regulations due to difficult economic times as a way to assist citizens. I'm appalled at what they are planning.

There are so many things they don't understand. For instance, there are no hatcheries (that I know of) within hundreds of miles of us where we can pick up baby chicks. The minimum order from most is 15 chicks and others are 25. Where are you going to get 6 chicks if you want hatchery stock which many people do...??? You could order the 15, keep 6 and sell 9...If regs allowed you to sell...!

I have 10 plus acres and under these regulations I would only be able to have 24 chickens...!

I (and many others) have invested in incubators and sell off excess chicks. Under these regs that would not be allowed. Also can't sell table eggs or hatching eggs...for which the GA dept of ag clearly allows without license if eggs are picked up at your place and sold at other locations if you have a license. Does the state regs supersede local...?

If your have had experience dealing with "bureaucrats" like this I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks
chuck
yes I'm sure we could get a group together. I'm in, that is so crazy, that is non-chicken people for ya
