YO GEORGIANS! :)

there's just something about these, I have a splash AM that hatched last september that still isn't laying. I asked her last night reckon how she's gonna taste when I put her on the smoker.....she just gave me that blank stare, then blinked both eyes at the same time, and turned her head like she wasn't even acknowledging I was standing there......

in other words, typical female response  :lau

My lavender Orps from last JULY still haven't laid a single egg.
Combs are still grayish and small. They do not squat.
Nice healthy looking birds but freeloading slackers!

If I recall from all my research prior to picking chickens, I think I remember something about heritage breeds being late bloomers as far as development and laying. Slow growers but once they get there, they are quite reliable.

Someone more experienced may be able to give insight to that. I could have misunderstood what I read. It was a long while ago.

@PapaChaz are Ameraucanas a Heritage Breed? I don't think I ever thought about it. I think Flower said Vesper was btwn 6-7 months old when I got her at the bbq. And it wasn't until last week that she started to show signs. Like the squatting thing.

No questions right now, just pick his head for potato growing. I would use the poultry garden dust

You could also try some Malathon spray, can get it at TSC its like 2 tap to a gal of water then spray the plant. Make sure you don't spray or water plants in the heat of the day. Early morning is best or early evening, with enough time the plant can "dry out" before dark but after the heat of the day.

This is strangely hilarious to me, that I would sign on to see this post this morning. Late last night, I was literally online looking at a website about keeping skunks as a pet. Not kidding. I was disappointed to discover that, although legal in GA, the only color skunk they do not allow people to keep is the black and white. You can have any other colored skunks but that. Unfortunately, those are much more difficult to come by, as the most prolific colors in the skunk world, is the black and white! This post gave me a little chuckle. Oh well. no skunks for me. I would say next time you see one, catch it, but pet skunks have been "de-stunk", wild ones, not so much.

If I had a nickle for every time I've been on the receiving end of that response from a dude, I could've retired to a private island years ago. A stem on one's apple does not make one immune to such behavior, it brings to mind the phrase "it takes one to know one..."

A pot and a kettle are both the same shade of black.

edited to add: admittedly, there is truth to that statement. And I do very much resemble that remark. I have mastered that skill quite well. If it was an Olympic sport, I would be a record holding gold medal winner who may qualify for the Guinness Book of World Records. hehe.
Oh the one I killed was white, but you will find it hard to find a vet that will de-skunk them, if they accidentally nick the sack then the office will stink forever and I really think they just must smell skunky, stinky little things, and I won't catch one for ya, it takes a lot to make me gag and I accidentally got a whiff and I was dry heaving that even surprised me I wasn't even near the animal, walked around the house and got near where it must have sprayed. an experience I don't wish to have again anytime soon.

I'll have you know that I have some pots that are stainless steel, and some that are cast iron, and some that are aluminum, and NO they are NOT all the same color, so there!

I admit I do give this response myself sometimes, but I get it a lot more than I give it, and to quote Forrest Gump, "that's all I'm gonna say about that"

Could be. But I know the buff Orps from October have been laying.

I think they are just stubborn.

eeek. my gag reflex is weak. doesn't take much. Iremember a friend when Iwas in middle school had one. I recall it still had a teeny faint stink still there, but he sure was cute! especially when he got mad. he'd spin around and try to spray you but noting happened. Just looked like he was dancing.
