YO GEORGIANS! :)

Advise needed!
I have three coops. One layer coop with a run attached to the run of coop 2 (grow out). I also have a separate grow out coop.
I let my broodies hatch in the attached coop (attached to layer coop). One broody didn't hatch any eggs. She is back with the layers. The run is attached to the run where the hen is with 2 chicks. My plan was to introduce the broodies with babies back to the layers and have the 9 week olds split between the grow outs.

The other grow out has 9 week olds.

Problem: the other broody paces the chicks at times. Now I'm afraid to let the hen with chicks near her. I need to move some of the 9 week olds out of the grow out. It's getting tight in there.
The hen with 2 chicks is taking up a whole coop. Again, the plan was to keep her and the chicks with the layers, but I'm afraid of the broody who didn't hatch.
Could I put a couple 9 week pullets with her and the chicks?

Anyone interested in taking in a lone male African goose? We've had a mink rampage through the flock and he is literally the lone survivor.

He's pretty depressed right now, and has some defensive wounds on his wings - the last bird taken was his duck best friend, and it looks like our goose tried to fight the mink off (and failed).

We're in the Stone Mountain/OTP East area. If you're interested, please PM me.

I had a man in Ellijay looking for a duck for a lone female whose male disappeared. Mine are too young. But, that's a long distance. If you want info, PM me.

Speaking of lonely.. My Papa Mal finally flew off. He's been back a couple times with a small bachelor group and I'm sure he'll be by from time to time, but so interesting how all that panned out. :)

I forgot to mention..I incubated and hatched 3 out of 5 Peafowl eggs. Turns out, if you incubate them between 50 and 55% humidity in a cabinet incubator, they will do so much better. The ones I incubated a month ago had 1 out of 4 hatch but I incubated them at the same 47% humidity as the chicken eggs. So if anyone is incubating peafowl eggs in a cabinet be sure to get that humidity above 50 but not over 55. The last 3 days (lockdown) it is best to get the humidity up to 70 and even a little higher if you can.

Broody update...she is still holding strong. She is seeming a lot more alert acting today. The first day or so she seemed really tired (unless you messed with her). I know she had 10 eggs under her; however, I am not sure now. I have only gotten one egg (it was on the coop floor) since she started. I am not sure if my other girls lay there when she gets up, or if they just aren't laying. I am going to try to catch her off the nest tomorrow and check.

I'm thinking EE cause they are regular brown and not dark brown.
I got an Isbar roo today so that can add fun colors later too.

I have thought about that too. If I breed a lavender AM to a French BCM that lays the dark eggs, I figure they would be OE but what color would the chicks be or once grown I should say? Since you breed black AM to Lavender AM to get better lavender and splits, would any of the chicks from the Lavender AM and FBCM produce any FBCM with lavender where black would be?

Sad news. I had my first mystery death this week. One of my first chickens, too. She was kind of an a-hole to the other chickens, so I'm not too torn up about it, but it still sucks. Once we are done updating this coop, I'm going to be looking for another laying hen to replace her if anyone has some to spare.

Still ought to be beautiful birds!

If you breed black to lavender you get black split to lavender.
So I wouldn't expect to see lavender in place of the black. But if you then breed those back to lavenders, half of those should be lavender.
