YO GEORGIANS! :)

Flowerbh,
Do you have pics of your Chocolate Orp parents? I'm going to look at some adults today, but I have concerns about the tail colors on the male.

Hi all! Long time no chat!
Basically I needed a break, since I brought some chicks home, quarantined them 30 days, put them in my grow out pen and lost ALL my growouts.
My swap chicks from the cook out last year, my welsummers, marans, speckled sussex, black & blue Ameraucanas, EVERYTHING in my big pen.
Over 100 when all was said and done.
Had the state vet out, she said it was ILT (Infectious Laryngeal Tracheosis) and that everything in that pen would be a carrier IF it survived.
I had to cull what didn't die.

Then I sold everything in the adjoining pen, just in case, with a disclaimer that they MIGHT be carriers. They were bought for eating so the family didn't care.
Broke my heart to load up some of those! All my RIR, BBS Ameraucanas, Silver Laced Wyandottes,so much more.

It really took a lot emotionally, so I kind of dropped out.

Luckily I had separate pens on the other side of the yard with my Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ams, my Lavender Orps and Ams, my Silkies and my Buff Orps (although something got their rooster so they are just for eggs) and I switch shoes between sides of the yard.
5 of each breed.

I'm starting over as far as my big pen with a Cackle Surprise (or two) and some quail. I've been loving my Cackle babies, and am going to try to frame up a bigger brooder for them today.
Hubby will finish if I can start it :)

I'm supposed to go look at a good friend's English Chocolate and Chocolate Cuckoo Orps today, 3 hens, 2 roos. That would fill my last separate pen.

I've read about the last 4 pages, trying to catch up a little.
I have missed you all, and I did appreciate Flowerbh checking on me before the Newnan show. I told her some of what had gone on, why I had disappeared, But I have missed you all!

That is truly horrible! I have had insomnia ever since this AF thing has been threatening! I see a scenario like yours if my birds get AF......where they would come in and kill all my birds! I would be lost!!! And all my cute 'special looking' cutie pies! I don't know how you stood it!

Is there anyone close to me, I'm in Pine Mountain are near Callaway Gardens that has a young or young adult sweet docile hen, maybe a 1 year or younger that they would part with. I lost my Ginny last night...can you say devastated !! I cried myself to sleep and woke up crying. My chickens are my babies, and my therapy, since i suffer from severe depression and PTSD among other things. Just wondered. I have chicks, and was more comfortable with a older one in the coop to watch over them. I of course am not trying to replace Ginny, that could never happen. Thanks in advance..

Im so sorry for your loss. I'm too far away from you to help you.

GAM, I have 6 Marans. Can't really tell the sexes yet. Just know at least two males....big legs. I'm hoping for at least two females. Do you want all my boys? LOL! I have maybe 3 Swedish Flower cockerels, 1 Chocolate Orpington male and those Marans. All purebreds.

Anyone else interested? I have them on Craigslist for $10 each, but will sell them to BYC friends for $5 each.

I saw your ad on Craigslist. I thought maybe that was you.

Do you have a picture of the Chocolate Orp?

I've got three CO cockerels that I will be parting ways with in the next month or so, and soon after I will be looking for a quality CO male to breed my CO girls. I also have three FBCM cockerels that I will have to send away, but I think I have a source for a FBCM male to breed with the FBCM girls.

BTW, your pug is cute as a button. My favorite dog breeds are pugs and rat terriers (the long-legged variety). We have neither right now, but we're looking.

Reading your story was gut-wrenching. I feel so bad what you went through. That's every chicken fancier's nightmare.

A breeder friend of mine who saw at the Newnan show had three beautiful Chocolate Orps for sale. These were quality birds. Even the fluffs were a dark chocolate color. I thought those were his main breeding hens, but come to think of it, he does have others, so he may be a good source.

He also has a Big Black Orpington. It is the largest orp I have ever seen in my life, but it is as mean as sin which is kind of unusual for an orpinton's disposition. That rooster will come at you with both spurs! And, if he does allow you to enter his pen, when you close the door to leave and are walking away, you can hear him slam against the door as if to show his hens that he ran you off...

I'll PM you the breeder's contact info.

Flowers lays beautiful eggs! You got yourself a real winner with that orp. I appreciate the picture.

Compared to my really light eggs from my buff and bantam, she really makes the egg cartons look nice :D

Other on the note. I want to an antique mall yesterday. I saw a cute egg create. They wanted 42$ for a crate that wouldn't even hold 24 dozen. I throw them an offer but they declined. I want online and found a egg crate for 28$ that looked just like the one at the Mall so now I'm getting a way cheaper egg crate :D

Glad to see you back, but so sorry to hear about your loss! I hope you get lots of good stuff in your new cackle surprise boxes.

That is truly horrible!  I have had insomnia ever since this AF thing has been threatening!  I see a scenario like yours if my birds get AF......where they would come in and kill all my birds!  I would be lost!!!  And all my cute 'special looking' cutie pies!  I don't know how you stood it!

I know the feeling! My birds are covered, but it's not airtight. If a passing goose poops on top of my run my lovely flock could be done for. :<

None of my chickens are showing any signs of disease, but I'd love to be able to test them and make sure. Does anyone know a cost effective way of doing that? I don't need to be NPIP yet, so I don't want to spend that much money on it, I just wanna make sure my gals are safe.
