YO GEORGIANS! :)

Im still looking for a rooster. I live in Mableton. Im at the most willing to go 30 minutes for him. Cant go to far, got places to be and places to go. If I had the time I would go two hours for a couple chickens. And I have before.

Sure wish you were closer to me. I have a gorgeous Barred Rock rooster from excellent breeder lines available as well as one of his young sons, but I'm a big further than 30 minutes, for sure. Check out my sig line for the links.

Speaking of traveling to pick up birds/eggs, years ago when I was breeding my heritage Delawares, someone literally drove all the way straight through from Massachusetts to buy 3 dozen eggs from me because I was not mailing eggs anymore. It was over 1900 miles for eggs. They are still hard to find, too, true and proper Delawares.

@Junglefowlboss - Good to have someone else in Mableton - I have several chicks (some hatched - some due next week) - If you're interested in chicks you're welcome to one of the cockerels once I can sex them. They are mostly pearl white leghorns and a few either leghorn/RHR or leghorn/black australorp crosses.

If its really windy I dont think you should spray the yard. It could poison the chickens.

You're not supposed to spray foliage active weed killers of any sort when it's windy (period). You'll get problems with overspray to plants, water sources, etc., you don't want contaminated. It's on every product label I have ever read. (It's also hard to kill the noxious plant you're trying to get rid of if the wind is lifting your spray someplace else. It only makes sense.)

Depending on what you're trying to do, salt will kill weeds. It works fairly well for edges of driveways. You can also change the pH of the soil with vinegar. That probably works best fighting single plants and knowing their soil preferences. You have to be persistent.

Really thx I will take a couple cockerels. I was hoping to meet someone else who raises chickens in mableton.

The Leghorns cockerels are usually pretty easy to sex at an early age - (and hard to sell) - so you can have a couple depending on how many I end up with. I'm going to sell some of the purebred's at hatch but plan to keep a few - so i'll probably end up w/ a few cockerels.

Where are you in Mableton?

Not sure where to ask this question, but I need a natural weed control solution that really works! Any ideas???

I would also like to see the responses on this question. My husband wants to spray our yard since the chickens won't be out in it. But I worry about using pesticides and herbicides even if we're not spraying their "yard". Where he will be spraying is just feet from the chicken run. I worry about windage and so forth.

I think I may have found a solution ...hopfully. Will post when I finish reading it and not driving...lol. I'm horrible about that
