YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hmmmm...I'm on the fence as to whether or not to give this a try. One of the Mottled Orps I got from you (Mabel) is the one who went broody. I could tell she was starting yesterday because she pushed the egg she laid yesterday to the front of her breast and just sat on it for awhile. Today she did the same thing with another egg, so I took the egg and kicked her out of the nest, and she complained a bit. Then she went back to the same nest looking for her egg(s). I know that look. I gave her a few ceramic eggs, and sure enough, she is as content as can be. Since she is just starting to go broody, it seemed like the timing might be right since I get the Muscovy eggs tomorrow. If I do go forward with this, how many eggs do you think I should set? I'm getting 24+.

I'd give her 12 and be prepared to switch them to the incubator if she decides to give up. That way you have 12+ sure eggs in the incubator and half the work load for yourself if she does go through all the way.

That sounds like a good plan. She jumped off her ceramic eggs this afternoon. I don't know if she's being smart, or if it's a lack of commitment. lol Anyway, if she's back in broody mode when I get the Muscovy eggs tomorrow, I'll slip a dozen in her nest, and see hows she does. She's a great layer, probably the best one I have, so I'll miss her production if she goes broody in earnest.

My girls seem to be off and on for about a week before getting serious. Now pretty much no one is laying eggs. I get one every few days from my two cream legbars and nothing from my silkie and the showgirl is raising chicks. Maybe it's the heat? Can't wait until the other girls get older and start laying.

My Orpington girls are still laying strong, but they eat so much that I would be disappointed if they didn't give me close to an egg a day per girl. However, the FBCM aren't doing much.

Special thanks to @livhatcher and @Tabasco Jack! I smoked the jalapeño-cheese venison sausage that Olivia gave me (low and slow) on apple wood, and it was AWESOME! Not gamy at all! Thanks, Liv! I also stuffed the quail Jack gave me with a Cajun stuffing, then wrapped them in bacon, and smoked them low and slow for a couple of hours. They came out perfect! I love my BYC friends! :love Lisa and Christopher raved over the food! :clap Here's a photo of the final products:

I think the heat and rain is getting to my chickens as well silky hatched ,3 Orph chicks but then started kicking the rest of the eggs round so ended up putting them under other broodies.. Don't know if.the rest will hatch now.
