YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hey Sue, if you want to knock down flies and mosquitoes, Bayer Tempo Ultra WP is a good product that is safe to use around chickens and breaks down quickly in the environment. It's a organic cyruthrin-based compound, similar to pyrethin found naturally in chrysanthemums. Here a URL to a label PDF file for the product: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/msds/Tempo Ultra WP Label.pdf

I have an unopened 14.8 oz (420 gram) canister with 10-gram scoop that I bought earlier this year but I no longer need. If you check online, it runs about $65 - $75 per canister, but I'll sell you mine for $50. You mix one or two scoops (10 or 20 grams) into a one-gallon pump sprayer. It's an excellent product for quick knockdown of flies and mosquitoes. Usually you only need to use it once, but you can use a second application in about two weeks. It's very toxic to fish and insects (including bees), but it's safe to use with poultry, goats, pigs, and cattle.

For long-term fly control, garden lime (not slaked!) sprinkled in the chicken runs and coops will lower the pH and prevent fly larvae (maggots) from developing, and garden lime is perfectly safe for your birds. A 50# sack is $3 at TSC, so it's super cheap.

Anyway, PM me if you're interested.
Thanks Bruce I'll pm you.

One of my sons came up Saturday and we started on the new Duck coop. All you coop builders have done flung a craving on me!!
We cleared a spot in the edge of the trees, set the foundation, framed the floor and walls. Gonna keep at it this week before and after work to hopefully get the roof on before it rains again.

This is the one drake from this years hatch that I think I will keep. He's got a nice green tint to his head and the best body structure.

Well, I did well today. Yesterday at Tractor Supply, the manager wanted to be done with the chicks, so he offered me a deal... all the ones left for only 50 cents. They had 25 Isa Brown females left. So, for $12.50 I bought them all. Last night I put an ad on Craigslist and today sold them all for $3 each! That's a $62.50 profit! Yay me!

We have an entrepreneur in our midst.

Got word on the Swedish Flower cockerel (Sven) we had gotten from you. He has become the bad boy of the chicken yard and wants to fight all other cockerels and roosters to the death, so he has to live in solitude for now. He's such a beautiful bird, so it's sad that he also has such an attitude. He needs to be the lone rooster with a flock of his own girls.

My black silverback sizzle is broody so Im letting her sit on some silky eggs. If any are fertilized They will be black blue or white. Here's to surprises.:pop
I thought it would be your buff girl (Cutie Pie is what we called her) that would go broody first. She used to get so upset when we would collect any of her eggs. She would try to hide them under the shavings, but we were on to her!

Bruce...here are pics of your girls...they are amazing...all of them!!
