YO GEORGIANS! :)

There's no way you can tell at that age. I've had future pullets come at my hand, same as future cockerels. I wouldn't rehome yet. Watch the comb. If it starts getting large or mulberry colored, you have a problem. But the nicer the silkie, the harder they are to tell apart.

Thank you! I've been really nervous - I don't want my 2.5 yo to fall in love with one of them and then have to figure out what to do with a Roo. >.< I know it's a possibility, but still....

Yeah and I don't even know anywhere that sells sexed silkies, even the online places. The only other option is to get a young layer, then you know for sure it's a female.

I have two silkie chicks. They are 10 days old and are supposedly a partridge and a splash. I’m not certain the splash is actually a splash. Do the spots show later?

I was hoping for two pullets, but I’m starting to think the partridge is a cockerel. When we first got the chicks at two days old, the partridge would hide under the splash whenever we’d reach in to their bin. But starting yesterday, the partridge has starting charging at us, especially if we reach in and pull out the splash. Does know if this behavior would indicate it’s a cockerel or if pullets could do this too?

Picture of chicks for attention.
Way to early to tell. A partridge cockeral will change color at about 8 weeks or so he will get a lot of orange feathering around the hackles. The partridge is the only one you can really tell at an early age.because males and females have different coloring.

That's been my experience. There was a place that "rented" chicks out for a month and if you liked them, you kept them. Supposedly, they would help you sex them by the end of the month and they had a rooster guarantee. That farm isn't doing the program this year, and I can't find ANYONE who says they can reliably sex a silkie that early.

I didn't know that! At least that's good news! I'm pretty sure our splash is a pullet - she acts too hen like. Of course she could be a super submissive cockerel, but I think she isn't. At least I hope she isn't. LOL

My gamebird and showgirl have been sharing a nest of eggs. Apparently the gamebird decided one chick was enough because she left the showgirl on the rest of the eggs and is caring for this one chick. Lol. So cute. I love moms and babies.

I came here to escape the royal wedding coverage. I don't understand why Americans are so obsessed with these snobby over-privileged royals. The word "Royal" makes me want to puke.:sick A pale privileged balding red- headed silver spoon sucking wimp, and a 3rd rate actress who was another man's reject. We fought a war to get out from under the thumb of that family. Americans are so star struck that it makes me ashamed. Sorry, I know this is not the right place, but I just had to vent somewhere.:barnie God Bless The USA!!!:woot

I can't say I feel that strongly about it, but I did find it interesting that Facebook was silent about yet another school shooting yesterday and today it's blowing up with royal wedding nonsense.
