22 days ago my DH and I thought it would be a good idea to put our incubator filled with 41 eggs in our master bedroom for the 21 days. This seemed like a great idea becasue with kids and dogs it is the safest quietest place in the house. Well last night at 3am when the first of a long line of VERY loud peeps started happening we started to rethink this "wonderful idea"

At 3:30 when one perfect but loud black Austrolorp chick hatched out

and then proceeded to not stop chirping for the next 40 minutes we knew for sure that it definitely was not a good idea. But, who knew it was going to choose the middle of the night to hatch. As of 7:30 this morning when I left for work this little mouthy guy was still the only one out, which brings me to another observation.

Through this whole process we have been VERY careful handeling the eggs while candeling them and looking in on them and adding water, heck we wouldn't walk in the bedroom too fast past where the bator was for the last 21 days. Well, this little guy hatched out last night and proceeded to play kickball with all the eggs in the bator, he was pushing through them and rolling them all over the place. So, why in the world was I tiptoeing around my bedroom when clearly I could have been playing football with them???

Fingers crossed for lots of fuzzy butts when I get home

congrats on your first 'baby' - hope you have a healthy 100 percent hatchout! We are newbies to all of this, just got our
baby chicks yesterday - 54 Barred Rocks and they are all doing well in their 'custom' incubator my husband made for them.
Just saw your pic of him, he's adorable!

Come on babies!!!! Believe me Mandy, I can hear them hatching here through 6 inch thick plaster walls of this old farm house and I'm hard of hearing....He's saying...Get out. I'm lonely...Comeon I'm lonely....I love that first hatcher...S/he's a cheerleader...Enjoy the hatch and let it go on at least 2 1/2 days before grabbing those chicks!!!

Nice looking tractors....... I need my hubby to build me some, but if he did I would just get more chickens lol.

What a beautiful day today, I had the day off work and had a great time working outside in the fresh air and sunshine with some friends, what a perfect way to spend a sunshiney friday

My hatch is going good, thank you for asking, I have had 15 little fuzzy butts hatch out and the majority of them have been Austrolorps so yes "our" funny boy is doing his job. I did have one little Speckled Sussex that I am afraid attemtped to make his way out of the shell but died before mission accomplished because it broke through yesterday afternoon and nothing more in 24 hours, so..........
