Oh my gosh that is soooo sad - I am so sorry! I can't believe you had to open up the box and find that. I guess this time of the year is so cold it is rough. I have been nursing my hen Money Penney for three weeks and she was on antibiotic for two weeks and then I put her in a "step down" cage outside in garage and yesterday I thought she was ready to go back outside but I put her in a smaller enclosure with my blind hen Yuna. That way she wouldn't get picked on and she could help Yuna too. She was so happy to be outside and eating well and everything. She nested in the hay last night while Yuna was on the roosting pole. This morning I went out and she had died in the night. It seemed like she may have been too cold. I feel so guilty and sad.
We get so attached to our babies. Just last week I lost two new Silkies and Mille Fleurs to a raccoon or possum which has NEVER happened so now I am looking for some new silkie hens. I have found someone who will sell me some Millies. I have been so sad and feeling guilty for two weeks. All of this said, I am very sorry for your loss and can relate to the sadness.
