YO GEORGIANS! :)

@abmaddox1981 I'm in Winder, not to far from Athens. We feed them Dumor layer feed (is that okay for my roosters to eat..? They've been doing fine but just wondering..), have scratch grain (about 2 cups for 30 girls and boys) and scraps/produce. I know some of my girls are going through hard molts but what about all the others..?

I feed mine pretty much the same except I don't give scratch. And layer is fine for the roos. We let ours free range, don't think that would make much difference this time of year though. You could try supplementing light. Or if they were laying before, could be they're taking a break. Or, could be y'all are a bit cooler than we are here, I'm in Griffin, exactly half way between Macon and Atlanta.

My first chick of 2014 has pipped... at the wrong end. But so far it seems okay, as every once in a while I hear a loud screaming peep coming from the incubator.

I only have about 5 due to hatch between now and the "huge hatch" on the 23rd (two incubator's worth). And three of those five are mystery breeds. In the meantime, I guess I need to come up with a name suitable for the first hatch of the year...

I got 4 eggs from 7 hens Tuesday and yesterday even though it was pretty cold I got 7 for 7 yesterday.

So glad we all made it out of the Polar Vortex without damages to our flock.

The hay has been a huge hit with my flock, so I'm thinking of spreading out more in the run too, to keep their feet off the cold & muddy ground.

Found an egg under the roost pole again this morning, this time it busted. Pretty sure I know who the culprit is, since there's a little RIR in there who is always the last to get down in the mornings. The boxes are only like 2 feet away. Either she's laying so early she can't get down fast enough, or she's just plumb lazy.
