YO GEORGIANS! :)

We just got power back. The chicks in the brooder are fine, and the incubators appeared to only drop to 93 degrees. That's not bad considering there was NO source of heat on this end of the house at all! I made sure to wrap them good though! I did have one that sounded like he was about to hatch last night, and he stayed in all night anyway. This morning, he's still alive, so I'm hoping he'll warm up and finish hatching. He didn't actually zip, he just got really "chatty" like they do when they zip.

I just had to PUSH all of the chickens out of the laundry room though. They spent the night in there, and they were all dry this morning. But their pen... is gone for now. The sides are okay, but a giant iced-over tree limb fell on it last night and BENT the poles that hold up the net, and all of that came crashing down. I AM SO GLAD the chickens were inside, or we'd be having chicken and dumplings for dinner... for the rest of the week!

Not like anyone can leave to go grocery shopping right now anyway! I went outside to feed the ones that stayed out all night in the pen against the house. Every step I made had the loudest crunch possible, because it was all just ICE! No snow! It looks pretty, and it's all shiny and white, and the yard looks clean for once (no thanks to the nieces and nephews). But it's pure ice. Thankfully, I didn't come close to slipping. It crunched and gave way easily, so grip was fine - at least in the yard itself!

And as I stood out there, I noticed one tree that is almost definitely going to bite it before the day is out. It's leaning SO well, I was tempted to kick it just to get it to fall anyway. The base is a good 10-12 inches across, but the top sits at a good 45 degree angle away from the base. That's how bad it's leaning. It's not one steady angle though - it continues to bend more as it goes up, until the very top just goes horizontal. About every 30 seconds though, another branch in the woods out back would start cracking and crash down. I'm just waiting for that one that causes a chain reaction, and a whole group just collapses at once!

So everyone made it alive, we have heat now, we can cook now, we have hot water now (omg depending on electricity sucks), and we can charge phones WITHOUT trekking through the ice to the car and trucks. But most importantly, I have my electric blanket, and a TV, and I'm not going to MOVE all day, if I can help it!

We are melting very quickly here. I could totally have made it to work, even in my car.. But, power is out at work. Can't work without power!! DARN!! :p
