almost wet myself laughin so hard! No wonder turtles get run over... trying to get some on the other side of the road lol

FINALLY did our taxes, oh boy I am def getting a good coop and run this year for the big birds and maybe even a separate one for the silkies outdoors! With weatherproofing for hot and cold. Going to hire my nephew to help me! Has anyone planted anything to cover their outdoor run to prevent mud or put extra sand and gravel in it to help with drainage? My acreage is wooded and has NO grass or ground coverage other than leaves. Any suggestions?

And don't be telling people because I don't want it getting out thus causing competition but TSC in Dallas will be getting their birds on the 18th. If I remember correctly, they will have about 12 or 13 different species coming through over the entire time they're carrying birds.

Oh, no turkeys here. But geese should be on the way (and I'm the geese enabler for abmaddox too). Lots of chickens though. And turtles. And bulfrogs (funny story there). And toads. And a couple of young garter snakes. And a tree frog. And lots of ground skinks. And a few broad-headed skinks. And fish. Yes, fish, almost forgot them. Anyone want to buy a royal blue betta fish in about 5 weeks? My niece gets to pick hers, then the other 20+ babies are up for grabs!

By the way, I can't keep anything plant-like in my coop. The chickens eat it all! I just flipped over the water pan in the silkie pen a couple of days before the ice, and there were tons of wheat and corn plants trying to grow under it. I didn't even make it 20 feet to turn on the hose and back, before they had already pecked at most of it and eaten it!

Yes... but not a turtle. I've successfully hatched out skink eggs (the lizards that LOOK like snakes, with small legs), anole eggs (the lizards that change from green to brown), and I've had garter snake babies (they don't lay eggs though - they are livebearers). This is my first time with turtle eggs, but I've done TONS of reading on them, because this particular venture is part of a conservation project.

Ok, just wondering. About all I know of reptile eggs is they are VERY easy to kill. Once they're laid, they have to stay in the same position, right? Or is that just the crocodilian eggs that die if they're turned? I would love to hatch out baby turtles.

You could raid the snapping turtle nest at the farm.
