We have a little over 7 acres total, and want to fence at least 3 to start..... good luck with a cheap fence installer. I'm hoping my husband's friends will give him a good discount since they grew up together... we'll see

Well, as it is here, so it is in real life. I have no friends. (they found out I married a Canadian and they quit me) No.... sympathy not required. Our neighbor and a retired co worker both have fencing experience so I'm hoping to promise them lots of beer in exchange for installing my fence for me. 2100 feet of fencing or thereabouts. I think a 12 pack each should cover it, what do you think?

Orpingtons are great birds. That's what I started with. My roosters were a bit rough but the hens were very nice. Nice eggs, too. I really am just down the road from you. Not an expert by any means but always happy to help get a newbie fully hooked on chickens.

Yeah I think the Orps will be a good fit for us to start out. I think hubby was relieved I'm not planning to get a rooster. Maybe one day but not now.

Which color polish do you have?
I have a gold laced roo, and used to have 7 buff laced hens. But their crest keeps them from seeing much, so I slowly lost all 7 hens to predators. In April, I'm getting 3 more buff laced hens, and 3 silver laced hens.

I have 1 buff lace, 2 buff lace hens, 1 mottled hen and 1 red and black laced, I don't remember what the color is called exactly....
