He let his boss borrow my tiller a month ago and I asked when it was coming back so I can get my garden in. I didn't have a garden last yr because his boss had my tiller until it was to late and the fight was on. Guess I need to find someone to come till my garden and pay them, it's not worth the stress. Anyone know someone I can hire to till my small 50x30 veggie garden. All I need is a couple of passes and then rows.....

If we had a tiller, I'd have the hubs come do it. We're doing lazy gardening. Laying out straw with rabbit and chicken manure. No tilling
 
Ok I'm better :P. Anyway I ordered a solar motion light for the back of the coop/run yesterday. My new project is to build my own solar panels and eventually be off grid. To start we have no power in the barn so they will be the first project. Solar power the barns so I can have light and heaters in the winter and incubators. I was an electrician for 22 yrs before I broke my back at work so this should be easy. Famous last words, ;)

The hens are starting to trust me more and let me get close. I notice that the biggest and dark hen has a band on her leg. Why would a game hen have a band. I know the hahns macaw has a band but why would plain old game hen have a band?? And can I take it off
 
I absolutely love to garden, he knows that. I swear he is going to push me over the edge, then I won't be responsible for my temper tantrum. LOL

A lot of breeders band the hens, especially if they have numerous breeds. You can remove it.

I had the same issue with my TSC. Only 3 of them had pasty butt. But I kept having to clean them up, with the chicks screaming bloody murder :lol: I put a little vaseline around the vent and it helped. The problem seems to be clearing up now. I heard it's normal the first few weeks with hatchery chicks.

Think it was roboduck that asked about 4x4s. My grandpa, rip, had a huge farm in Tx. He used the preserving methods from old school. This will work if you don't mind the looks, but the posts he put in over 50yrs ago are stil there. He would mix in 55gal barrel a 50/50 of Lin seed oil and turpentine. We would go thru the woods and cut down 2 to 3 inch saplings, then put them in the barrel over night, then out to the cow pasture, put them in and nail barred wire. Sounds crazy but this is the method used in the old days for barn building and is one of the reason why old barn wood is so demand. Bugs don't like it and I guess it's water proof. I really don't know all the specs, but it worked and pawpaw was never wrong in my eyes. I'm not going to make such a big barrel, just a 5gal bucket. I have woods to get my saplings, so once I have it in later this spring/summer I will post more pics and wether it is worth the effort.:P

I have a small tiller. It's only going to get an area about 1-foot wide per pass. Not being used this year.

But it's electric, so it might take more than just one extension cord, depending on where the garden is.
