We can eat Marans... not Rhodebars, Brahmas, Buckeyes, Silver Laced Wyandottes, or Barred Rock.  

Buckeyes are great meat birds! Tastes just like chicken!

We have enough pets!!! I'm trying to be more self sufficient. I grow a garden, can and dehydrate all my extras that I grow. Thinking the same with livestock.

I won't eat my animals (I can buy meat at the grocery store!).

Plus if the civilized world goes to heck, and we have no food, I figure there will be trespassers/thieves coming by and they provide good protein too, know what I mean? Won't be as lean as store bought chicken but it will be protein for me, and the dogs, and the chickens.

Lol not really worried about the civilized world coming to an end. My family has always been farmers and had livestock. I loved being on the farm when I was younger. Now that my kiddos are grown. I want my own little farm were I control what I consume. We just had homemade pasta for dinner and canned roasted bell peppers from last yrs crop. Yummy
