GAM, what a surprise with your alien! I could swear those were girl noises, but I guess they were baby noises?

I had abmaddox and her kids captive for the day. The little zookeeper has declared that ab's middle kid is a long lost cousin, and she just needed to play today! She likes his older sister too, but the baby brother "gave her a heart attack". What a drama queen, lol.

ChickDancer, I'm hoping for goose pics in the morning! AB should have turkey baby pics by then too. I'm not in any position to set more eggs for anything else until we get back from a trip next month; I might be having withdrawal symptoms

DEFINITELY no promise on goose pics. From what I understand, geese take a lot longer in each stage of hatching. They were internally pipped on Thursday, and didn't make a crack in the shell until yesterday. Chickens take about 24 hours for that - these guys took 48. And while they have made their external pips bigger (one has made a complete hole now), they haven't even begun to zip. I am thinking a full 24 hours to 36 hours for that. But they pipped sometime while I was at work yesterday, so anywhere between 7:45 and 3pm for the 24 hours.

And you had better believe I'm staying up late tonight if they take that long! I might have to make up for it by visiting Starbucks tomorrow. It's a little drive, but if I'm staying up all night with them, I'm rewarding myself tomorrow! LOL!

Plus, it'll be a cause for celebration anyway!

So from researching all over the web it appears that the LBs can be sexed by their feathers quite easily.  General consensus seems to be that ones with the tails coming in straight are pullets and the fluffy butts are cockerels.  Plus the girls feather faster than the boys.  

That's what the internet says, anyway.  

yes, I read that in several places. It looks like I've got 5 definite boys, 1 definite girl, 1 possible girl. I think it will be pretty clear in the next 2-3 weeks.

Went to visit GAMaran's farm , but its been raining so much we didn't get the royal tour. We will be back soon to visit. Not far of a drive and such a pretty place to see! swapped my Silkie babies for a cpl of her babies for her daughter's enjoyment mostly.

I was getting babies from her one way or another lol

It really was a treat to meet you and I can't wait to have you back on a better/nicer day to really show you around.

Boy alien? Hmmmm. I thought it was a girl. Woops! Do y'all want me to keep an eye out for him a girlfriend?

I think we all thought she was a she but she sure gobbles like a he. lol

Morning guys.

It was a looong night. Up at 1am to get the most urgent chick started on zipping.. Did a "can opener" shell removal, leaving the membrane as was and wrapped in a paper towel.

Woke up at 3am to that one hatching. So far so good, it's in the brooder with the first two that hatched on their own.

So now I have three more in the bator that I have zipped in the same way.. You guys know how, once a lot of the action is over with the self-hatchers, temp and humidity just seem to lag after that? So that's what I'm fighting now.

The three that I have zipped and wrapped, I have no reason as of now to think they won't make it. All are active and pi$$ed, so plenty of fight left.

One remaining chick had never internally pipped, so I opened the air cell and made a hole for its beak. That one is also wrapped but I did no zipping. Pretty sure that one will e a loss but I'm giving it time, at least until it gives up on its own.
