YO GEORGIANS! :)

Both of GAM's big Marans roosters had their right eyes shut and full of pus yesterday. We caught them and cleaned them and got their eyes open. Today they both had both eyes shut. Broke butt was very lethargic and you could see that white nasty pus in his mouth. If what flower posted is what they have, it's viral and I don't suspect broke butt is going to make it. Whatever it is has hit him harder than the other one. At least he still has one eye open and is up and walking around. Broke butt just takes a few blind steps at a time and bumps into stuff. It's kinda like watching an old blind dog try to get around after rearranging the furniture.
I would like to suggest that you call the State Vet and have him tested. You may be dealing with a respiratory issue and it could make all your birds carriers. I recently lost over 30 chickens that had to be culled because of MS (mycoplasma synoviae). From reading here, you have invested a lot into lots of different breeds and I would hate to see you lose them all by not finding out. Some of your symptoms sound similar to what mine experienced. Another bit of info, if you all visit each others farms, you can spread this stuff to everyone. I hope for you it isn't anything serious but if it were me, I would have to know.

I hope everyone and their chickens are able to keep safe in these storms! Kind of wishing I could bring my chickens in to protect them. Hopefully they will stay in their coop when needed and not out in the wet run!

Oh Oh Oh GREAT NEWS!

It took a week in the coop/run but the last two night the chickens have been putting themselves to bed in the coop without us having to put them in there and close their coop door! Now we just have to close the door and open it in the morning! So happy about this! They are learning! :)

That's great news! DO they go to the roosts? A few of mine still just lay in the shavings to sleep. Now if we could teach them to open and close their own doors then all would be perfect lol

Good morning everyone. I'm home from our whirlwind vacation to Florida, and getting ready to go stay the round up of critters that got scattered for boarding. I'm so sorry to hear of the illness and predators you're dealing with, Roboduck and GAM. Sometimes the realities of farming really, really suck :(. I'm anxious to see my own crew and get things done at the farm. I'm a little list because I keep hearing about storms and flood watches, but I have not kept up with weather forecasts for home while I was gone. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I Don't have storms to deal with while getting everyone back home, and my ducklings needed decent weather because they are in dire need of baths!

As far as I know, we didn't get any bad storms. I remember looking at the radar yesterday, and there was one big patch of bad storms, surrounded by dozens of dots of scattered rain. And with me being 45 minutes south of the ATL airport, the storms probably went over us. But we did get some rain, although not even enough to make a difference that my sister didn't roll up my car window last night.

But tomorrow is supposed to be the bad one for us. It says "BAD STORMS" on weather.com with the day highlighted in red. That means I need to pack up this possum in this trap and release him far away, ASAP...
