YO GEORGIANS! :)

FINALLY found Brownie's new nest! She's been visiting the neighbor's property and plopping eggs down in an old utility sink that he has sitting outside of his shed. It has metal bars over it that look like they belong to some shelves or something, but just lay over the top of the sink right now. Apparently she thinks it's the PERFECT spot for a nest!

Hopefully, she'll keep thinking that even though I took all four eggs she had put in it. The neighbor doesn't mind (he's got LOTS of junk like that, and it just sits there collecting dirt) and I'd rather not go on another hunting expedition to find her next nest!
put a couple fake eggs in it

Anybody else dealing with mites? They seemed to just show up. But then again, I can only see them on the white trim of my coop. Sprayed the girls and coop with poultry protector and put poultry dust down. The warning label on the poultry dust kinda freaked me out or I would have put it out everywhere. Going to refill the dust bath bin with ash, poultry dust, and DE mixture. Anything else I should be doing?
Good god, yes! EVERYWHERE! This rain has caused them to multiply so rapidly, I'm kinda having trouble keeping up!

I don't know if you want to go this route - I have FAR too many chicks to do so, now. But Ivomec (ivermectin) injectable, works against mite infestations. I'm not sure if it kills them, or just makes the chicken's skin undesirable. But it does work.

I was thinking about that, except I'm going to be lazy right now because I don't feel like wading through the woods to get to said neighbor's house again. Still not feeling 100% and had to work today, so I'm calling it quits for the day, lol

But then the real challenge is finding the golf balls that I bought just for that purpose, that the nieces and nephews keep taking for whatever else. One niece uses a pink sharpie to do different designs on them, like an actual easter egg. I don't know who is more confused about whether or not it's a golf ball or an egg - her, of the hens that use them!

My adult goose diaper is due in tomorrow! YAY!

And NO CALL FROM MCMURRAY HATCHERY! That's good news - it means my chicks probably actually ARE going to be shipped out tonight, and will still arrive on Monday! I just have to hope like hell that they did not "substitute" something crappy for something they no longer had. If they didn't have them hatching anymore this season, I'd rather wait until next year!

Already warned everyone involved with the chicks on my end that I'm expecting them, and they need to take good care of them! I don't have to work on Monday, so I'll be able to pick them up and come straight home with them. :-D

No more trusting my sister to put them in a secure spot....

Hello all I've got a hen setting on eggs she started yesterday can u put more eggs under a few days after that and they all hatch at the same time thanks

Sevens dust and the dog drops that say for fleas, ticks, lice and chewing mites. 3 drops on big chickens necks, two on younger chickens. Kills them and keeps them off.

Never heard of injectable kind. Hmm...I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'll look into it this weekend.

Ok. I have this on-hand. What's the deal with eating eggs after? I think I read that it does not transfer to the egg but I cannot remember!

What actually IS Sevens dust? My grandfather has a big pillow case of it and dusts it over the outside animals during the summer. Is it a special kind of medication or something?

It's pesticide. Literally. Carbaryl is the name of the active ingredient, which actually does the killing of the insects.

And the name is actually Sevin dust. It's a brand name.
