YO GEORGIANS! :)

Broody hatched 2 eggs so far....4 more under her and 3 eggs under another broody.. They are due tomorrow. The babies are BOs from a neighbor. This broody, Halo, is a mystery chicken. The egg I hatched was suppose to be a Lemon Orpinton, but when it hatched, she has feathered feet and was obviously not what it was suppose to be. I sent a photo to the lady I had gotten the eggs from and she couldn't even imagine what crossed what with her available hens/roos. But, she makes a great mom and she lays a purplish brown egg, so I am happy!
The feathering on your hen looks similar to our 11 week old EE. Do you have a picture of your hen's face?
Here is a picture of our EE we call Cinnamon. You have some cute fuzzy chicks!

I was surprised the "fresh cedar shavings" comment went unnoticed earlier.

I did notice it, and meant to point it out, but got caught up in my own replies and the events around the house, and completely forgot. Yes, it is toxic to birds. The oils in cedar shavings can kill them when ingested (and the oils obviously cause the fumes/smell too). And it's not an instant death either. Unfortunately, birds in general - but especially chickens - like to peck at EVERYTHING to see what it is, so if they have cedar shavings as bedding, they're going to peck at it.

Okay, total count of babies is 12 - out of 18 leftover eggs. Those are pretty good odds. All of my own hatched except one (mine were only EE's and silkies). It was an EE that sat next to a rotten egg, so I'm not too surprised. All of the silkies hatched though, which I am VERY happy about, since I lost my white silkie roo to a d**n predator. And all of them are from the white silkie hen, since the black one was broody at the time, meaning they are all white and there's a VERY good chance of being able to replace the lost roo.

The funniest part about the hatch though, is how all of the black colored chicks hatched first (five total) and all of the yellow/white colored chicks hatched second (seven total). I put them into the brooder in order of hatch, and the five black chicks are in the brooder together by themselves. I went back to the incubator and realized all the chicks left in there were white...

SO weird!

might have some, or she may have some available soon. Unfortunately, she's on the south side. But maybe she can mail you some hatching eggs instead?

I'm kinda curious to know what she ended up with from her giant Easter hatch...

They could ride on the railroad if anyone visits GAM at some point.. Lynn is my homegirl, I see her weekly at times if I'm lucky. :)

Cedar shavings in a chicken coop/brooder? Hmmmmmm

LMAO. Are y'all talking about me?? If I did say it I meant pine.. And if y'all don't quit acting like I'm some kinda fool (ROBO.. BITING FLIES).. I'm gonna have to break bad around here.

This is actually kinda cool. I figured I would share it for the "egg yolk" trick that we as chicken owners can tell anyone who buys 'farm fresh eggs'. But the cherry tomato idea? The strawberry pit idea? The cell phone "amp" idea? Those are useful too!

Although I would NEVER use a vacuum cleaner hose to pull my hair up into a pony tail. Have you seen the dirt those things collect? Why the hell would I put that on my head??
