YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hey Ya'll, I have a dozen CCL eggs in lockdown, it's day 20 and 1 egg just pipped, but it pipped on the pointed end of the egg. This is new to me. Anybody seen this before?

My 6 week olds are out with no lights right now and it has gotten down that far. I kept a close eye on them but they did amazing.
PS- they weaned themselves off the light early, i didnt just throw them off of it fast myself. I let them decided comfortable temp.
Ours have been off the light for several weeks now but my husband was worried about them getting too cool last night so he turned the 25 watt bulb on in their coop on. We have a wifi type temp gauge in their coop that said it stayed around 45 in the coop. I'm trying to find a temp gauge now online that has the wifi with an alarm to let you know when temps drop too low. We live in a valley area and it tends to be cooler here than in town. We also get a lot of wind here. A wifi temp gauge with an alarm would be great for letting us know when say a bulb goes out or if we lose power in the winter.

That WOULD be a great idea. And we all have to follow our gut on when to/not to use heat sources. If you have a nagging feeling then it's probably too early. :)

I didn't supply any heat during this cold snap. But my chicks were introduced outside back when it was in the 40s at night. Ages are from 7 to 12 weeks.

They snuggled last night. I seen 'em :D

I have hatched a few of my friends eggs that pipped at the wrong end. Usually happens when they are stored/saved in the wrong position. This friend didn't know to save them in a carton, pointy side down. She just saved them all in a big bucket until I came to get them. You probably already know this, but some on here may not. anyway, when eggs are stored with the air sac on the bottom of the egg, the air will travel upwards and sometimes goes right thru the yolk and you end up with a scrambled egg before you even open it. But, like human babies, some will just turn the wrong way. Hope it is ok

The only time I provided heat is after hatch until they are down to room temp. Took about 3 weeks with this group. I just watch them to see if the bundle together or if the spread out and away from the light and judge by that. I keep a thermometer in there just to pay attention to where they are but judge by chicks not temps. After that they stayed inside another week without the light and outside the next week when it was pretty hot. After that it has gradually gotten colder with the rain. I keep them dry but they are still doing great outside even in the 40s.

OMG!! :running

I went out hours ago to get eggs but my BO was in the box. I let her be.

Hubby went out just now and came back with nothing. "Floss is in there," he said. I said, no.. Went out and found this:

This pic was AFTER I drug all four eggs out from under her big ol' boobie. They were quite hot- She had obviously been on them for a while.

She just started laying like two months ago.. Could it be?? And if so, do BO usually see it through? And just how many eggs COULD I fit under her? :lau

I took my three little Khaki's on their first trip out today. The were such good duckies. It's official, I am totally obsessed with ducks. I don't care how crazy my friends think I am; I would take a duck over a dog any day of the week.

I hung my Mother's Day flowers on the corner of the layers' coop, in place of the bird feeder. I love it. I'm gonna get a hanger for the other side!
