Thankfully, I have almost no predator issues during the winter. Everything is too busy hibernating!

But good god this spring has played hell on my flock!

The PVC is, like I mentioned before, also held up by the welded wire. The two support each other. But the entire pen is going to be light weight, and very easy to move. I thought about putting sand in the PVC to make it heavier once the woods are cleared out, so stronger predators can't lift it up and go underneath. But the neighbor just saved the day with a whole different idea!


The PVC is all connected and open to each other. But they will be sealed off from the open air when I glue them to hold the pen together. So he suggested a valve on one of the top corners, and a drain on one of the bottom corners. That way, I can fill it up with water when I want it to stay put, and drain it when it's time to move it!


SCORE!

Heavy enough to keep predators from moving it, but light enough that we can move it around the yard. This man has some great ideas, I swear!

My friend just came and picked up the chicks I hatched for her. Brooder sure looks empty except for the 5 chicks I am keeping. I lucked out , I think I ended up with 4 girls and one boy. The boy will have to be rehomed or sold. It is a BCM. All these chicks will give me dark colored eggs. OE, OE x BCM, BCM, and a Cochin.

My friend also gave me one of the Golden Cuckoo Marans I hatched for her last month! Yea. Another dark egg layer!
 
You'll have lots of beautiful eggs! I can't wait for my little splash Marans to start- it'll be a while yet- plus Lynn79 has an EE for me too!
 
Princess Cleo passed in my arms about an hour and a half ago. Marek's is a terrible disease that I wouldn't wish upon anyone. I hope none of you have to watch your chickens go through it. Her feisty personality will surely be missed.

On another note, I've been thinking... I know I said I wouldn't get another RIR but her personality was like fire, so feisty and I will miss it. I would probably get another, not anytime soon though because I will not be getting anymore chickens anytime soon.
