YO GEORGIANS! :)

Do you guys remember the little chick I got free from the feed store because it had curly toes and the man was going to cull it? And I took it home and bandaged it's feet and then realized it was a male because it had the three rows of peas (comb) Well, guess what! It is a female! That chick yelled rooster the whole time, from it's stance to its slow feathering to the three rows of peas! Nope! I have a pullet Easter Egger!
Yea!

It amazes me how quick some people are to end a precious little life without any attempt to save it. I have had to cull chicks, but only in the most extreme circumstances. Congratulations to you for having enough time to save a life. A pullet is your reward. PRECIOUS!!!

Well, just spent a few hours of a headache getting Lola out of a tree. The back door doesn't actually latch well, and when the thunder and strong winds came through, the back door was blown open. It never rained, but I guess that was Lola's incentive to get out and fly. Up. Way up.

She went into the top of a pine tree first. Then I tempted her with crackers, and she flew down several feet into a nearby oak tree. It was a small tree, and I was able to shake it, but she held on. So the neighbor brought his chain saw out and cut it down. Lola took a ride down, then flew off to the side to the ground.

THANKFULLY, once she gets on my shoulder, she won't leave. Well, I also had the crackers still in my hands. So I put her on my shoulder, and walked her back inside where she got to eat two crackers, and snuggle up and take a nap before going back to her perch.

Lol, cut down the whole tree huh? Too funny! Great deal on the EE chick. The pair I have were half dead at TSC so when I asked for a discount to try to save them (there were 4, 2 too far gone already) I got them free for being a frequent customer;-) All that was wrong was store staff not being able to properly do the chick thing- heat bulb too high so they were cold, open top bin drafty, weren't shiwn the water, etc. A bit of Sav-a-chick and TLC and a male and female is the prize! 3 months old now doing great. Accepted feathered out 1 month olds in their pen yesterday with no problems either. Congrats on your girl!!

My girls (at least one of them) finally decided to stop being freeloaders! I got my first egg yesterday. My 22 wk EE laid a beautiful green egg. Now if she would only influence the others!

Yea! I feel your excitement! I've had chickens now for over 2 years and I still get all excited about my eggs! I don't think I will ever get over all the fun colors and the fact that my pets give me breakfast AND a way to help support themselves! (I sell extra eggs!) I just really look forward to visit the nests and get all let down if my husband brings them in! LOL
