The Ayam Cemani is a beautiful bird, and from what I have been reading about them they are the world's rarest breed!! I was amazed when I saw this video and heard the sound of their crow!! If I wasn't in love with these chickens before... I am head over heels now. Unfortunately a single chick can cost thousands of dollars. When I hit the lotto....

Greenfire farms sells Ayam Cemani chicks for $4999.00 for a juvenile pair!! I don't know if they sell many, but that price just seems ridiculous. I thought $100.00 for rare breed chick was expensive!!

They are actually VERY HIGHLY prized in India for their meat. That's part of what makes them so valuable and probably what also makes them so "rare" - people in India probably keep eating the breeding stock!
