YO GEORGIANS! :)

I know this is a chicken site but do yall know anything about guineas other than they are loud.... I'm considering getting some for eating bugs but I'm wondering how bad they wander. Or if they could get away from dogs or coyotes fast. Also wanting to know if I get a fenced area and pygmy goats would coyotes come and kill them since they don't normally come near my house. Our property is only an acre.
So maybe not a good idea.....

Did everyone move away or something? Holy cow I've never seen this place this dead.

Locos, on an acre, I would not personally do guinea fowl. Unless they had an enclosure they could not escape. But then are they really serving their purpose?

And if you have a good fence for the goats, you will most likely be ok. But just keep in mind that the odor of any animal like goats could potentially attract predators that would not ordinarily have a reason to be near your house.

When I was a kid our goat didn't have a fence. He had a 50' line tied to a rim & tire. That gave him a 100' area. When we needed another area moved we just moved the tire & rim. He was a happy goat.

True but depends on your area. We have a lot of loose dogs around here, for example. One bulldog in particular snooped around my chickens, terrorized us when we would go out for a jog, AND killed our neighbor's tethered goat. I wonder had it been able to get some distance and kick, would the dog have left him alone. It basically just pummeled the poor thing to death.

Just a thought. I've known others to tether without incident too though.

Be careful tethering goats. It is not recommended because they can get tangled and choke to death. When I was a kid (since we're telling these stories;-)) a relative brought her HUGE boer goat to the edge of the woods to chow back the briars and such. It got tangled in those briars and in its attempt to free itself just tightened the rope so much that we couldn't get the rope cut at the collar. It choked to death while we were slicing away at the collar. Not a pretty scene.
