YO GEORGIANS! :)

I haven't started selling my small eggs. Just giving them away right now since they are small eggs. I usually get random comments about how small my eggs are from people who only know store bought eggs.

I'll use the 'pullet eggs' and good for kids explanation from now on.

Speaking of store bought eggs. How do they get large grade A eggs. I thought they only kept chickens for about 2 years. If the first year they are small what happens to those eggs for the first year. I never see small eggs in the store(only medium).

Birds are genetically altered for egg production just like they are for rapid growth for meat production. The commercial birds are going to lay large eggs from the get go.

I sell a carton of "pullet" eggs for half price. I think I have good luck with them because they are different colors. People have commented on how cute they were and I always remind them that they are a great choice for kids. (Kid size eggs).
Oh, "pullet eggs kid sized" great idea! I have been asked by some at the Washington Farmers Market to bring my eggs on Saturday mornings. All of our girls are first time layers so some of the eggs are on the small and tiny size (one EE and Silkie eggs tiny). So I didn't know what to do about that. My RIR, Australorp, Black Sex Link and Red Stars lay large eggs. I will try to remember to take a picture of what my daily haul looks like so far. I did see that at least one of our Buff Orpingtons has started to squat when I come near her so I will be watching for an egg from her soon.

Adele looks like Cinnamon, very pretty birds
Thank you! Both Adele and Ginnie are a couple of wild chicks. LOL! They will just all of a sudden get a wild feather and take off flying in the pens. I just hope they don't decide to fly up very far. We are thinking about putting netting on the pen areas. The runs are completely closed in so I don't worry when they are in the run. I call the fenced in parts of our yard pens this is where they semi free range over the grassy areas.

I had some birds that loved to fly, I guess they were nervous with their new home. I put some netting from home depot, cheap stuff, it was something people use to keep the deer out of their garden. Zip tied it...Works!

They delay maturation so the pullets are larger and older when they begin to lay and will continue to lay larger eggs thru their laying years by manipulating the amount of light in the chicken houses.

There are numerous studies on this focused on commercial egg production.

They do sell the imperfect eggs to other industries and the perfect ones to groceries.

Thanks for all the info. I feel kinda dumb for asking.

IMO the only folks who are dumb are those that do not question.

And those who don't understand chicken lovers!

Are they wild or did they wander away from someone's property? Wild turkeys should all be about grown by now.
