YO GEORGIANS! :)

I told Cliff that I live up in the North GA mountains and I had talked to a local feedstore about doing a Chicken Event like Cliff is going to do at TS. This would be at a local feed store. We talked about having a buy/sell/trade event. My DH has shocked me and wants to make it a big event. He wants to have a crowing contest, egg toss game and stuff like that! I would like to have a few different brooders to look at, maybe a fodder system (homemade) and some educational flyers. Maybe sign up people for a monthly chicken meet-up group. Will let you know more later.

If we all go to Cliff's TS, we should wear our BYC nametags! Then we could all meet each other! That would be great fun!
I some how missed this when first posted. There are BYC name tags for chicken swaps?

I know, I just bought one on Amazon yesterday with rush shipping to get here by tomorrow. I ended up spending about $16 for one

I saw them on TSC but they are out of stock in our local store.

The coop is divided by fencing inside between the storage area for feed and supplies and the actual area that has the roost, nests and feeders so the chickens can't get to the heat lamp where I was going to hang it. The two mamas are together with the chicks and so far have been sharing the raising of the chicks and huddle together to keep the chicks under them. I have insulated the walls around the mamas and chicks and there are no drafts. I'm hoping they will continue to keep them warm. I just don't know if I should add heat with heat lamp or not.

I don't think you have to worry. It won't be cold long enough to worry. Think about the chickens in Alaska (-30), or those where it is below freezing for days and weeks at a time. THAT IS COLD AND NEED TO WORRY. I think your two moms will be fine with them for one or two days. Do you think our grandfathers had heat lamps? Just make sure the area is without drafts and dry!

It was something we did when we all went to Newnan last year for the chicken show. Just homemade ones that had BYC and our posting name on them. I never saw anyone else with one on, but a few of the vendors told me they saw a bunch of people with them.

BTW< when is the Newnan show? Feb?
