YO GEORGIANS! :)

Finally got a chick! two more pips. All NNs! I think both the SFs are not going to hatch. And, don't know about the OE yet. I will be glad when my big new incubator gets here. Of course, I think I finally got this little one adjusted, so ???? This was a first 'try it' batch.

Congrats :) I get so excited and antsy when it comes time for my babies to hatch. I don't have anything cooking right now though.

Oh man, I am sooooo upset! Went down to turn on the broody light to warm up for my new chicks. Came back and noticed my little NN wasn't moving. Somehow it had gotten it's head stuck in part of the incubator and died! This little mini is so small, the chicks heads almost brush the top of the unit where all the gears, heat, etc are! It was the first little NN that was hatched! The second chick was from the same Mom but not a NN. One more from that mom is hatching. Ugh! This is the second NN that I have lost in freaky accident situations! I do not like this little Mini and will be glad when my big unit comes! So sad for little baby.

Ok hatch is over. I used my regular incubator the first 18 days, then locked them down in my new Brinsea Eco Mini. I had set the mini up for 4 days before I used it to set the temp, etc.. It was maintaining 99.5. So, I put in 6 eggs. Overnight the temp soared to 101. The humidity soared to 72%! I kept trying to adjust it. Outside room temp had a big effect on the little mini....cold at night, jumping way up during the day! Of the 6 eggs, 3 hatched. One chick died when it got it's head caught between the water well and the plastic plating that separates the incubator from the heating coils. Another chick kept getting into trouble when it would get it's head caught on the thermometer that is built in and runs horizontally across the front of the incubator. So I candled the dead eggs. They were all fully formed, but may have drowned in the excessive humidity at the beginning of lockdown! I ended up with 2 chicks. One NN and one non-naked neck. I will be selling this little mini bator as soon as my new Hova Bator gets here.
