YO GEORGIANS! :)

here are some of the chicks I hatched from flowers eggs,

I really like the one in the middle she is so pretty, so any guesses as to what she is?

I don't know how I got a white one

the white one here is one I bought from TSC and it was marked as a leghorn, wrong can we say broiler oh well, but you see the NN in the middle

The one you like could be from an EE X Swedish Flower (he has a crest) if it came from the blue egg. I didn't have any silkie eggs in there so not sure where you got those, but not from me. It's funny that you got a white chick,. Someone in my group is giving me white & orange chicks and it is a wild guess, but I am thinking it has to be my frizzled EE because I got my orange frizzle and other than my white frizzled NN, she is my only other frizzle, but she is blue. Well, I guess it could be from the white frizzled NN, but the chick just didn't get the frizzle or the NN gene. I am pretty sure it is one of those. One lays a blue egg and one lays a green egg.

Seems like you got a lot of males!

Why, why, why am I always so unlucky! Everyone knows how the man took all my Polish mix chicks that I tried so hard to get, right? Well, then for two weeks I didn't get one egg from the Polish. Well, I saw her in the nest today and was so excited. Waited, then went to get her egg! Put the egg in the basket with the others and headed out of the coop. Wearing dumb slip on shoes so tripped and jolted the basket..one egg cracked. Go ahead and guess which one it was....just go ahead and guess!

I'm so sorry :(

LOL!

Newbie question-I'm still learning my combs.

If an Ameracauna and an Olive Egger have single combs, do I possibly have the wrong breed (I know both are considered mixes) or would this show that they may not lay blue/green eggs?

An Ameraucana should always have a pea comb....anything else, it is a mixed chicken and would be properly called an EE. Some EE may have a single comb, but most should have the pea comb. The gene for comb type and egg color are on the same strain of chromosome, that is why it almost always goes together and why you should try to get the chicks with the pea combs for a better chance of getting colored eggs. (But, it is not always true) I have had several EEs with beards, pea combs, slate blue legs and still got brown eggs!

Now, the OE is a result of a blue egg layer (usually pea comb but could be from the legbar which is not pea combed) and a dark egg layer (Most people use Marans), who have single combs. On most of the resulting OEs I have seen, they will have some kind of modified single comb. But, you can have any type of comb with them. If you started with an Isbar who lays a nice moss green egg and has a single comb, and bred it to a Marans who has a single comb, the babies would all have single combs and they would lay a nice Olive egg.

Just remember that EEs and OEs are mixes, not breeds, so there are really no rules when it comes to them!

But, a true Ameraucana should ALWAYS have a pea comb.
