Can diatomaceous earth be used in an entire backyard as a fly killer?

My girls have the ants and crawling insects under control., but flies and mosquitos are an issue, regardless of how clean I keep the coop.

I'm not opposed to using an insecticide, but what precautions would need to be taken to protect the girls and does anyone have suggestions for effective and safe insecticides?

Guineas lol I am starting to believe guineas are just a little smarter than a turkey, and they do put them selves to bed and come back home but I can see why they are easy prey. Maybe they go to bed because they are being raised like chickens.

Youngest daughter and I encountered a bear on its way to my hog and chickens this evening! It was young enough that I was on high alert for the momma. None of my coops will keep a bear out no matter the age! I kind of wanted to see it but not scoping out my critters!

I almost forgot to tell you the good news, I picked up my Jersey Boys (wonder if they met Tony Sorprano) from Gachickennewbie who picked them up from haireecat so excited they are so calm but they are also in their own house until everyone is settled

Hey you all one of my chicks has a leg issue I am not sure if it was hurt by a light that fell into the box or something just developed .Can I hope I am saying this correct spay leg start at 3 weeks and is the band-aid method effective ,it looks like both legs are working ,no swelling cuts or bruise the chick is falling to one side and can't keep it balance . It is eating and drinking ok I have it inside in a box it is going crazy alone but the others are picking on it .Any help or words of wisdom please I really would like to save this baby .
