YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hey you all one of my chicks has a leg issue I am not sure if it was hurt by a light that fell into the box or something just developed .Can I hope I am saying this correct spay leg start at 3 weeks and is the band-aid method effective ,it looks like both legs are working ,no swelling cuts or bruise the chick is falling to one side and can't keep it balance . It is eating and drinking ok I have it inside in a box it is going crazy alone but the others are picking on it .Any help or words of wisdom please I really would like to save this baby .

Sounds like it could be a nutritional problem. Does it have lice or mites that suck all the good out of them? They can cause them to have anemia and they can't stand anymore. Are you feeding it a chick starter food. Adult food should not be given to young chicks as it contains too much calcium and the chick is growing too fast at this age. It can cause bone/muscle issues in growing chicks that can lead to lameness. Does your chick have a vaulted skull? Some vaulted skull chicks develop funny and can't walk right. There are some diseases that can cause them to have paralysis in the legs. Marek's disease is one. Or, it could be it did get hit by the light and will recover in a day or too. I mean, it can be so many things at this age! I usually google the symptoms and look online. Good luck. Let us know what you find out! LOL< guess I'm not much help here!

It is eating chick starter , I will be going to get vitamins today I can't see anything wrong with it except it's legs don't stay under it .I might just try to hobble it to see if that helps . Thanks for the in put any ideas help.

it would gurt to bind the bad leg firstcand see if this helps if you use bandaides use the rubber or (clothe) kind is preferred and put one do you have a small stuffed animal thisvmay be of some help if not put one chick in there to help with loneliness it will not be pecked by a whole flock.keep me posted if this hepls.

Oh boy, you guys. I'm coming up on my very first lock down starting tomorrow! I can barely see inside the eggs anymore (I assume because the chick is getting so big!) There's just the air pocket and a thin layer of clear fluid then the rest is all shadow!
Is upright going to be better or on the sides? I'm inclined to leave them upright in the cartons for easy clean up. What do y'all think? The air cell also seems a little on the small side (I'll post some pictures tomorrow) should I still boost the humidity? I don't want to drown them!

@Flowerbh I think the littlest chick you gave me might be one of Bo's! She's getting some lovely 'pants' coming in. :) All three are so sweet, too!

A vitamin deficiency can cause chicks to walk on their hocks so I'm in the vitamin deficiency section

Sav-a-Chick is an easy way to correct it. Within a few days they should improve if it is a vitamin thing going on.

Ga has bears but rest assured, I am not in Ga so I'll keep "my bears" to myself

I am at least 5 hours away and directly in beautiful bear country. This one was smaller than the one that came through our yard at a different loation 6 years ago.

yes GA has bears, here's a trail cam picture of one on our hunting club last summer. This is in north western polk county:

when I was scrolling through the pics that day off this camera, I called out "holy crap" and DW came over and thought I'd photo shopped it, but it's for real! I make sure when I go to the club now I carry the .45 and not just the 9mm

can you post the info?

that would be nice, I hope your not going to be too far, I'm north GA, but if your too far I'll catch the next one.

The swap At Economy Feed and seed is in Savannah, GA. I just have to call and find out the date again. I also think that the cookout/bring a dish will be close to if not somewhere in Savannah as well.

There is the farmers market in Savannah. Well garden city technically. I think the closest TSC is in himesville.

There is one I. rincon but all are close to an hour from me.

I was thinking somewhere we could bring covered dishes as well? What do y'all think?

Would we just be meeting each other or actually doing a swap meet of some sorts?
