Something you can do for shade, that seems to have helped mine a good bit, when you get your run built, put landscape cloth over it. My chickens will all head under there in the afternoons when the sun is hitting the run.

They better not be complaining!!! LOL I just built them some fancy(ish) new digs! I showed a friend of mine an iphone pic last week, It was kinda dark so when he saw the nest box opening, he thought I put a flat screen tv in there!

For the record, I'm a bit cooky, but not a complete lunatic.

I am glad that I'm just about done with their coop, but im gonna miss the girls being in our guest room.(my first chicks)
 
Gam didn't you get some guineas? How are they doing mine are great,the white and the blue ones are so pretty, and they are doing their job, I kept forgetting to kill a huge ant hill, the guineas cleaned it up, I didn't think they would do any good bug control until they got a lot older. I still have not decided what sex they are, they all make funny noises, very vocal little guys especially if one can't find the group or the group is missing one, I have 5 chicks that run with them. Oh and it is like monkey see monkey do.

wait, you're saying that the guineas dug out and ate all the ants in an ant hill? good grief, with the ants in my yard I could fatten them babies up for ya!
