YO GEORGIANS! :)

I've never heard of using Sevin Dust on chickens. Does it work well? I'm always looking to learn new things. lol!
I read on the Chicken Chicks site thats what she uses. I just dusted two of them before I had to come in and make lunch. its best to dust them at night so they dont fight you and then repeat every week for 3 weeks total. So I am trying it.

Hi all,

I know many people use Sevin dust for "off label" uses. I hope this is helpful information for those thinking of using for gardens or chickens.

Here is a copy of the material safety data sheet:

http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/43/432854df-adef-429e-bf5e-d156ca4d948a.pdf

And an excerpt from it:

CHRONIC TOXICITY:
Carbaryl
has been shown to cause tumors in laboratory animals in lifetime feeding studies. Carbaryl, when administered by various rout
es, at
doses toxic to the maternal animals, has been shown to produce developmental toxicity in a number of species. Carbaryl produce
s no
teratogenic effects in the absence of maternal toxicity.

There is also one part that says that ingredients can cause lung problems.

Hope this is helpful. I personally use DE for a number of issues and have added to the dust bath for the chickens following Harvey Ussery's book "The small scale poultry flock". Food grade DE is approved by the FDA as a food additive generally regarded as safe.

Hope this helps

Hi all! Been insanely busy lately, DH has been out of town but gets back tonight. Been trying to plan how to keep the chickens cool while we're back home in Illinois. They're just not cooperating with me! The ninnies can/won't figure out the frozen treats/mister/fans/shade cloth are for them! Thank goodness we have a sitter staying here, and I'm putting the mister on a timer on the off chance they'll figure it out.
I've been messing around in my garden, but not much work to do now. Bush beans are in!
Hey Flower, I've included pics of Baymax and Pepper. Pepper is such a little freak, she cracks me up! And Baymax is one handsome guy. I'm still in love with his coloring!

Wow, they are getting big! Is Pepper still a girl???? That first picture makes it look like she is growing saddle feathers! LOL

Hey guys,

Couple months ago, while on craigslist, I ran across someone/s near Augusta Ga selling BLR Wyandottes, we couldn't take any at the time, but our little girls fell in love. They were selling them through their facebook page. I thought I pinned or bookmarked the page, but I can't find them anywhere. I have looked for hours upon days, to no avail. They had every variety and their lines were wonderful; gorgeous birds! I wish I could remember anything else about them, but that's all I got.

Anyone come to our rescue? Anyone else around Watkinsville with promising potential?

(Side note: we've also been searching for true heritage RIR's but haven't been able to find any. My eldest loves them.)
