YO GEORGIANS! :)

@PapaChaz - I got a good laugh at the new kid this morning. Brought him home at dark last night and just put him on the roost in the dark with the girls.. You should have SEEN him at daybreak.. He was puffed to twice his size and strutting around to each girl like, "woohoo!!"

treats out to lure them out maybe, then close the doors? I'm curious why it matters though, I think most just let them do pretty much what they want. They'll do what they need and that way they're happy. It's not exactly like trying to get a lazy couch potato hubby up to do something, LOL

Well......PapaChaz, I guess I was only thinking of myself and the extra clean-up time in the hen house everyday. And you're right about my DH. If there is a golf game or Nascar race on TV, then he is glued to his chair for the duration

You know my story about 'Every time I leave home something dies..' Well, had to come to Mobile to see my Mom. On the drive down, my DH called to say one of the baby ducks jumped in the small water dish and got chilled. He just put it in the brooder under the lamp to warm it up, but he didn't dry it off first. Just put it in there sopping wet! It died. Ugh!

Anyway, this is a sad trip for me. My 91 year old Mom is being taking to Texas where one of my sisters lives. She will be in a home there. She will not even know. I will probably never see her alive again as she is losing weight fast and is already a stick. It is sad, but we really lost our Mom years ago. She would have hated this for herself. She always talked about how she didn't want to 'die' before she was dead. You know what I mean? Anyway, it is sad for all of us.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Very sad time for you and your family.

So... know how I was complaining about all the animals? Well, we have one more now! I was walking one of the pups when I saw this cloud of flys. went over, and what was it but a tiny black kitten absolutely COVERED in maggots. Took it home and immediately combed and bathed it and got rid of all of the maggots and fleas, (even the ones that were INSIDE of her lady parts

) Shockingly, the skin was completely normal under all of the yuckiness, and she had no wounds or raw spots. She's extremely emaciated, but I had some orphan formula on hand, so her bony body has a round tummy now.... Surprisingly, she seems very alert and active. Her gums were white, but are slowly getting pink already. I'm guessing she's around 3 weeks old. I won't be taking her to the vet until she's older, just because I'm tight on money from taking the dogs to the vet, and she does seem healthy. Anyone know of organizations that would be able to help with the feral cat's medication fees?
BTW, her name is Eva, and she's staying. lol.

I've actually been doing a little something today. the storm last week took a big limb out of a hickory tree at the father in laws house. It was hung up in the tree, so I tossed a chain around the end, pulled it down and cut it up. brought it home and split it up to pile up and season for the smoker.....taking a break to cool off before I go dump it.

hope you heal up soon!

Add me to the list I was working on ome of my coops and smacked myself in the face with a board glad I was the only one there, then tripped over the light cord I was behind the recliner and went down on all fours and yes managed to smack the floor face first, all in one day
Anyone looking for some barn cats?

Two males, both neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. They're litterbox trained, but three cats is too much for me.

Free to good home.
don't take them to the pound, if I didn't live so close to the road I'd take them

To all my fellow clumsies on this thread:

what silly accidental injury did you sustain this week?

Last week, I stepped on the raw end of a roll of hardware cloth. barefoot.

Today, squished my finger in a door just hard enough to rip the cuticle off.

check out my list above,

How exactly did the topic turn to chickens when the killing of alligators and my need for a place to do it was being discussed? It's all about me and my needs here people. As soon as one of our southern brethren speaks up to let me know they own a swamp that is home to a 15 footer and welcome me to come forth and conquer said lizard we can return to our previously scheduled programming. Kthanks.

If my coop is 4x8 and my run is 16x8, am I wrong in planning for 6-8 chickens? I am thinking Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, and possibly RRs.
I was also thinking four nest, inside and maybe an outside nest as well.
chickens LF they say 2 square foot per bird

oh I love her, glad you found her
