YO GEORGIANS! :)

ok going to add this.

When I had my last flock, when we lived in the big house with land before I got hurt at work and lost my job and just about everything we had.............

when we realized we were losing the house, we moved into the city. at first I thought I'd be able to keep the chickens, but then found out they weren't allowed. I had to get rid of them. The youngest egg producing ones, I gave to my daughter and son in law. 4 years later, they still have 2 of them and still get a few eggs a week from each of them. The other, older ones that produced less, I sold off. I was honest about how many eggs they were producing, and priced them accordingly. The hispanic man who bought them (5 of them) told me their plans were to put em the freezer and cook them. I couldn't bring myself to do that, but didn't have a problem selling them to someone who would.....

When I hatch out my first batch of chicks, I'll probably give the daughter and son in law 2 or 3 to keep them in eggs before I sell the rest off My last hatch next summer will be to keep, and then the next spring/summer I'll sell the ones I have now as POL and I'll regenerate my own flock every year that way. I'm not going to say I won't have as many as you have now, but I can see where selling 6 or 7 dozen eggs a week could more than pay the food costs. Throw in what I hope to get for the Ameraucana chicks, maybe I will build another bigger coop for the 'mini business' aspect and just keep my personal egg producers in the one I have now

But, POL means Point of Lay(ing). I take that as meaning they aren't laying yet, but near it. Which implies a young pullet about to lay her first egg. How can you sell your two year olds as POLs? Or am I misreading your message?

And, thanks for your response. I know in my heart that is what I should do, too. It's just so hard for me to do that.... And, yeah, I'm like you, I can't eat them myself, but I have sold many roosters knowing they were going to be someone elses food. It is kind of dumb that I don't eat my own chickens. But, that's the way it is. (For now!)

ok I thought POL means they are laying? I've seen laying hens sold that way, meaning they are at the point where they are laying? Maybe I'd better just say "I have some laying hens to sell" and be safe with it

we gave the kids some yogurt this afternoon. I've noticed a couple of them have the runny poo again, so a good cool yogurt treat the next few days seemed like a good idea. The video seems to suggest they think so too.........

So, DH has bought tickets to see his favorite band in Nashville at the end of this month. He NEVER does stuff like this(he surprised me with them) and I am starting to worry that I cannot go. I have no one to take care of the animals(yet. I'm working on it) and I have a really really difficult time trusting strangers in my house and messing with my stuff. But, just in case I have no other choice, does anyone know of folks who do chicken sitting? And a rabbit, too. Hopefully, in the Coweta County area? If all else fails, he understands he may have to go without me, but they're playing at the Ryman Auditorium and Nashville is already on my bucket list. Seeing a show there would be like a bucket list bonus!

I am SO excited, lol!! Hubby was coming down the driveway and I was jumping and waving like an idiot..

The color I'm sure will fade as she lays more but it's just so pretty! Funny how different the natural light brings it out and then inside looks blah.

I cannot WAIT for the other three to Kick in and then get some size on the eggs so I can fire up the bator again!
