I went and closed the windows for overnight tonight. And.....the pen is SO close to finished!

We got the fencing done, and put the wire underpinning. Only need to add a gate to the side. That's tomorrow's project.
Will have to be quick, cause I went ahead and moved everyone from the original pen and coop into the empty section of the new building.
They can see each other through the divider door, and will meet face to face in the new pen, where no one will be protecting 'their' pen.
All will be brand new in there :)

Hoping it keeps the ruckus to a minimum as the blue AM roo meets the juvenile RIR and the two Olive Egg roos who currently rule the roosts.

question for you ma'am, how securely did the fence underpinning get attached? My reason for asking is, and if it's not too securely done it could be taken off and redone this way.....I would have bent that fence into an "L" shape about half way up and then attached it so the bottom of the "L" was sticking out like an apron to keep any 'diggers' from getting in under it

For now it is not digproof. I pulled my back and we had to just get it ready, since my poor AMs from CarCar are still IN the building, which was their quarantine, and they really need some daylight!

We will be re-doing the underpinning once we figure out what we still have on hand. The long side actually has hardware cloth for it's underpinning. It was all what we had on hand today.

But thank you, and we will look at digproofing a bit more.
The pen itself is solid metal for the bottom 2', then 4' of fencing. I'm looking forward to a 50' x 50' aviary netting for over the top.

It has a 4' vent along the top of the side wall, a ridge vent, and 2 of the spinny things on top (plus one of the powered vents for hot weather).
Also floor vents in each section. I may be closing off the ones on the front side for the winter, since I think this is the best vented building I've seen.
It used to hold about 200 racing pigeons.
 
Can you tell I'm new to all of this yet? haha.

I was thinking if they still had a few fuzzy feathers left then they weren't fully-feathered... but we're almost at 8 weeks old now and no fuzzies left. They spend hours at a time outside in the cold now so I'm getting used to the idea of them being outside all winter.
 
Ugh, I feel so bad! I called the guy who bought 40 hatching eggs from me to ask how it went. I knew when I gave him the eggs and talked to him that he didn't have a clue what he was doing. Anyway, he said he only got 2 to hatch. (He had the humidity at 65% the whole time!!!) Well, after I told him I had some chicks I just hatched and maybe he would like to buy some to add to the two he hatched, he said, "Oh, those two died. I think they got too hot." Ugh, now he wants to buy these new chicks from me and I am thinking they will all be dead in a week because he just doesn't know anything about chickens! What would you guys do? Just disappear and don't answer his calls? I could sell them to someone else and tell him a friend stopped by and wanted all of them!!! hahaha.,, I am so bad! But, poor cute little chicks!
 
I would totally not give any more to that guy! I guess you could ask him a little bit more about what his set up is like and if he's ever done that before, blah blah blah.. But if he was given 40 potential chicks and then only hatched 2, and then 2 died... then no way.

We were all new at sometime, even now am still fairly new to chickens, But the good news is you have come to a great place, a lot of great chicken people here with a lot of good experience and advice. They do help a lot, making it easier !
