YO GEORGIANS! :)

When I'm not out slaving away to make money to pay for her bad habits, she keeps me locked in the basement.

Smart lady. If only we had a basement here... I'd have a place to lock DH after a day of slaving to pay for my bad habits.

So... just wondering if the ER people know you by name and threaten to call DFACS on your husband like they used to do my parents.

there was a point in our lives, where yes, the ER people actually knew me and Jill by name. I once went to the ER and the DR was "don't I know you from somewhere"

I am not making that up! When I told him yeah, from all my trips there he didn't believe me. Then I gave him dates and injuries and he came back a few minutes later and apologized

I've gotten to the point I just keep some superglue around for anything that's gonna need less than 8 or 10

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

Oh it wasn't me.  I was the good kid.  It was my sister that was always in the hospital.  I may or may not have been involved in any of those injuries though.

Umm.. The fact that sister never told me about any of this kind of further hurts your case. :/

Well, now I know why God made armpits! They were made to save two frozen new born chicks from death! I went out to check on the four chicks that hatched yesterday and saw the momma hen in the run. I couldn't believe she got her chicks down the ramp and across 12 feet and out the door! But, I assumed she had all 4 chicks with her. Anyway, I had wanted to candle the other eggs so I ran to the nest and found one chick all cold and stiff! I tossed it in my pocket and ran to the garage to turn the brooder on. Then I went back (with the chick still in my pocket) to the run and found that the momma hen only had two chicks with her! Where was the fourth chick??? Went back to the nest and looked and looked. Finally found it in the corner of the coop more dead than alive. I mean, this things legs were all stiff. I rubbed it a bit and it's mouth opened so I knew it was still alive. The brooder wasn't warn enough yet, so I went into the house and put these two cold stiff chicks under my armpit and covered myself with a blanket. After about 20 minutes, I heard churping and felt them wiggling! Yea! So, I figured if I had gone out there even 10 minutes later, those two would have been dead! I took the other two away and all four are now in the brooder.

I candled the other eggs. All but one were clear! (What do you expect, only one rooster with 34 hens! LOL) Anyway, the large blue egg was still in an earlier state of development and had veins, so I just threw it under one of the other broodies. I figure one of the other hens laid it in the nest while we were out of town. I will deal with it later.

Here is a photo of the chicks from early this morning before all this happened. And, one is a NN!

Just checked on babies. All are eating and drinking and running around. From watching them, they may all be females! Will let you know more at a later date to see if I am correct!

Momma hen acts like she doesn't even miss them.

Soooo, since the babies are in the brooder, I went ahead and put the juveniles in the big coop. I have a section in there that I can close off and keep the juveniles (or babies) in there. They will stay in there with the door closed for several days. Then I will open the door at night and let them venture out on their own when they are ready.
