YO GEORGIANS! :)

I already ordered. He can't ship til Monday but the way I see it.. Thursday.. Monday.. They both end in -day, right?

Where do you usually find hatching eggs? I ordered from Ebay several times and some turned out well and some turned out crap. Got 14 speckled Sussex eggs and 1 hatched. Got 12 more SS from another seller and 1 hatched. Got 2 dozen of EE eggs from a seller in south GA and 6 were broken but the remaining 18 all hatched and only had 5 roosters so that was a good hatch. Wanted some bantam cochins and got 20 and 3 hatched. I could go on and on but was wondering if there are other places or sites to find hatching eggs?

eBay, usually, and I've had mixed results. Got some MFD twice- two different sellers.. First batch I hatched seven, all pullets! Second batch only four were even fertile- seller didn't much care, either. However all four hatched and I still have all eleven MFD and they're stunning.

Ordered Barred Rock off eBay from a lady in GA about a month ago and got seven babies.. Picked UP a dozen from a guy after that and got ONE baby from those, I assume due to storage before I got them.

Anyway, like I said- mixed bag.. :/

Oh! And let's not forget the Silver Laced Cochin eggs I ordered from eBay .. ONE WAS FERTILE. And it hatched and it's not even silver laced :old

Another good option is to peruse the breed-specific threads here on BYC.. I found a Partridge Brahma breeder that way.. Had two FANTASTIC shipments/hatches from him. The first time he sent eight eggs and all eight hatched!!

Those were shipped from OH so distance doesn't seem to be a factor. I think there are just tons of factors that work for/against you.

Speaking of my Cochin.. With my spare time today I've considered several times pursuing that seller for a refund. Such crap, that the one thing that hatched isn't even what was advertised. Makes me wonder how many other people have had an issue!

Thanks for the info! Sounds like we have had some of the same results from ebay! I have thought about selling some hatching eggs from a few of my groups but haven't decided if I will do it. I need to thin some flocks soon to make room for new chicks. I am waiting for some to start laying to see who is the best. I have an Isbar hen and now I want a whole flock of them. Have a pair of S. Sussex and now want a flock of them too. HA! Chickens have always been my drug of choice. LOL

I went after each of mine. Some cared and some didn't. Those that didn't I just gave them bad feedback. That one group of SS eggs was covered in mud, which we know isn't mud, and she said she has dirt bottom floors and cannot control that. Uhhh, yeah you can! Put some boxes or anything in there instead of letting them lay on the ground. I don't mean just a little, I mean so dirty you could barely tell what color the eggs were and you could sit them on a flat surface and they wouldn't roll they were so covered. She was from Evergreen, AL and the other guy shipped me SS eggs from his hens that had just started laying and the eggs looked like bantam eggs they were so small. They had only been laying a week. Those came from Blair, Oklahoma. Some people just amaze me! The lady with the bantam cochins said wow, only 3 hatched, you may want to try again in the fall. As if I would order from her again?
