I haven’t posted in awhile but I try to read the post often. My 20 girls laid 19 eggs today. I went in the coop to pick the poop board this morning and found all nest boxes (10) with a hen, one on the poop board and one waiting for a box. They are 8 ½ months old and I’ve kept a calendar for the number of eggs laid and the nest box they used. They never laid less than a dozen after the first day I collected a dozen. So far they laid 95 dozen. They free range and go out at 9:00AM but I’ll hold them in until noon tomorrow because of the weather. I have 14 Buff Orpington hens, 1 rooster, 5 Black Australorp hens and one Easter Egger hen.
I have a question for you folks. I’m thinking about ordering 20 more chicks in April and selling the hens I have when they reach 18 months. What price should I expect for the hens at 18 months? They are really nice fat healthy chickens.
All you guys that are falling apart don't worry they can put you back together but you may need to start getting use to some of the pain. I have lots of pain in the cold weather from old injuries. I had a finger cut off and pinned back in place, bone removed from left wrist and fusion, total right shoulder replacement, 3 back fusions, 2 heart stents, a pacemaker and more stitches than I can count and I enjoy everyday that I've been blessed to rise!
