YO GEORGIANS! :)

I'm thinking it is genetics. I hatched a few with a curly toe. Feathers got them from me. We were thinking then that it may have been incubator temp, but now I am thinking it must be genetics. I would not hatch more of those hens eggs. Just use those eggs for eating.
These were more than curly toe ... I culled them. Poor little things.

well guess none of us were the big winners,

Maybe someone could tell me if this will work.
Rochester has been really busy with the hens lately so I am thinking I'll put him and 4 hens that I can identify in a horse stall for three days and then let them out at roost time to go with the others at night. I'll paint the hen's toenails bright pink and then gather their eggs separately for fertile eggs for the next week. I have 20 hens so I think something like this may work. Any advice from you chicken folks please?

ok how are you going to tell the eggs apart just by painting their toenails?

and thanks, yeah I do most everything by myself since the wife works. Make a deal with you, next time I need help with fence, I'll let you know and you can let me know the next time you need it. I think over head is a never again thing if I have to do it alone

Well he's been with them from the beginning but I didn't realize he could keep 20 hens fresh! If that's the case I'll start looking at the eggs we cook every morning and they should be fertile, right?
wow it that rooster is keeping 20 hens fertile I wanna know what brand feed you use. LOL

about half that is what I've always read, 9 or 10 per rooster at most if you're shooting for high percentage fertile eggs

Just send me a message and I would be glad to help you and it would be nice to meet some of the folks close by.

I'm out all day around the coop collecting eggs and working around the barn so it wouldn't be much trouble to watch for the pink toes headed in. They free range and I notice them going to the coop all day.
