18 gallon rubber maid tote for a nest box. big enough for two hens AND a rooster, and she still kicked out most of the shavings.

Thought I would send you a photo of the 11 eggs I got today! Like usual, colors just don't show up well in photos.

The top two on left of tinted egg are blue. Those below the blue are greens. None of my Olive Eggers are laying right now, but got some nice colors today.

The two pieces of 2x4 that block the double doors at the floor are installed with a couple of screws (the 2x4's are laying up on the roost waiting to be reinstalled. That makes it VERY easy to just rake the littler out into a wheelbarrow. Also, when I do hose/scrub it out it's easy to squeegee the water out and it opens up for lots of airflow so it can dry quickly. It's about time to repaint insides and out...guess we will do that next year.

I sent this photo to my DHs email. We have been talking about moving our coop up the hill a bit, out of the 'flood valley' where it is now. We wanted to also put it up off the ground to keep it dryer and easier to clean. I was trying to explain to DH how easy it would be to clean if you just open up doors and scrap it all out into wheelbarrows. With your photos, he finally understands what I was talking about. Thank you very much for posting!

Thanks...I did put a lot of thought and research into the coop before building. I have another brooder/grow out coop divided into 2 sections opening at each end the same way for clean out. You are VERY correct about needing to be easier for those of us with more miles/years...and I have some "extra mileage"...about 200k miles on motorcycles and "years" riding atv's in the back country out west...so I'm shook up and rattled pretty good! :)

You are very welcome...glad it helps. I got all the ideas for building the coop from looking at and combining several plans right here on BYC. Also, the chooks can get out of the rain underneath and find shade in the summer. They dig holes underneath and use them as dust bath's...I also toss wood ashes up underneath which sure helps with the mites and other critters. The overall floor size is 8 X 8.
