Well, Bummer! Those Mottled Orpington eggs I got at the Newnan show...,.,the ones the guy was selling for $35/dozen, but gave me a 'deal' for $20/doz. Well, of the 2 dozen eggs we got, only 9 are even fertile! No wonder he was ditching them so cheap! I am going to look to see if I got a card from him and let him know what I think about that! And, from the look of the air sacs, some of them were pretty old to start with!

And, to let you know, of the 14 eggs from my girls, only 3 were not fertile. Not bad for only 1 rooster with 32 hens! You go Beau!

a question ma'am. could you have taken a strong flashlight and candled some of them to check the air cell before buying? If he was selling eggs that were that old, he should be banned. You should let Cliff know about it, but then we've all seen how he reacts to even legitimate complaints....I realize it was nothing to do with TSC, but they could 'not' allow that guy to set up there again, right?

Papa, this was at the Newnan Poultry show, not Cliffs TS affair. And, no, it was daylight and I guess I should have asked more questions, like, how old are these eggs and what is your ratio of boys to girls, etc. Being an honest person, I tell people what to expect....like I just sold eggs for half price because I didn't think the fertility would be great and I told them so. Only one roo to 32 hens, well, that's not good odds, but at least I tell people. I just assume other people will do the same!

I've got a dilemma. I found my cochin hen with a bloodied head and peeled back skin two days ago. She's been inside the house in quarantine and i made the assumption it was my turkey hen since she is so much larger. Well i put the turkey in isolation and came home today to find my largest chicken dead with some ruffled feathers and a little blood on her head. Of the birds in the coop there were 3 modern games, 2 7 month old show girl bantams, a rouen duck and a 2 year old turken hen. Do i just assume it was my only other LF and just get rid of the turken or do i wait and see if there is another suspect and risk more birds? I have had a few isolated incidents last year that i had assumed were just unhealthy birds but now i'm thinking it may be the same situation.

Is the duck a male? They can be pretty rough. But, other than the show girls, I would think anyone is suspect. Could even be a hawk or something like that! So sad.

Duck is a female. Coop is completely enclosed. The moderns are 10oz soaking wet. Showgirls are maybe a pound or two.

So desperate to start an argument you skip right over her comment of where the eggs are from. I believe GAM and Robo will tell you how I handle complaints. Their local TSC was very apologetic and may have even called them themselves.
