YO GEORGIANS! :)

Have you checked the pen really well just to be sure there's no place they're sticking their heads and getting stuck and then injured as they panic and pull themselves free?

I'll look into that avenue next. The turkey is gone and the large hen is dead and the Cochin is in quarantine so we shall see what tomorrow brings.

So desperate to start an argument you skip right over her comment of where the eggs are from. I believe GAM and Robo will tell you how I handle complaints. Their local TSC was very apologetic and may have even called them themselves.

Yes ... can not say enough good things about how you stepped in and helped on that.

Here's hoping it either doesn't happen again or that you figure it out without any more serious injuries.

Papa, this was at the Newnan Poultry show, not Cliffs TS affair. And, no, it was daylight and I guess I should have asked more questions, like, how old are these eggs and what is your ratio of boys to girls, etc. Being an honest person, I tell people what to expect....like I just sold eggs for half price because I didn't think the fertility would be great and I told them so. Only one roo to 32 hens, well, that's not good odds, but at least I tell people. I just assume other people will do the same!
oh ok, the poultry show. I have a cree flashlight that's like 400 lumens that shows all the way through even the AM eggs, I would think even in daylight it would shine through enough to see an air cell. Now I'll have to check this tomorrow and see, LOL

I have him blocked so if you hadn't quoted him I'd never have seen it. Guess that would prove I'm not the one desperate to start (or continue) an argument like he did before. his comment about the one or two legitimate complaints a couple of weeks ago were more than enough to prove to me what his mindset is on them. Glad you got your problems handled though.

I suggested he block me but he obviously hasn't, I'll leave him blocked and just skip any posts that quote him. That's how to avoid an argument, I won't waste any more time talking to him or about him, he's pretty much proven he has that TSC culture about him anyway, and there's no point. Heck he won't even acknowledge when part of what ya say agrees with him LOL what a maroon, in my best bugs bunny voice

yes ma'am, so couldn't a person take a really strong flashlight and at least get enough candle power to check the air cell before they buy at one of these shows?
I was only commenting on the origin of the eggs :p

But yes, one could reasonably check said status with a strong enough light and a jacket over their head.. One would also like to assume one wouldn't have to be so suspicious though :/

I agree, sad that it's come to having to check them. From the sound of it, flower got some that were too old to be selling for hatching. Probably too old for eating too if the air cells were that big

Just checked the coop with a flashlight and the only openings that fit the scenario are covered in a layer of dust. It's wild. My turken shows no signs of being in any sort of mutual struggle. The white frizzle is the dead bird, the black and tan frizzled cochin is the quarantine bird and the black turken is my only other moderately large bird besides the rouen and she's scared of her shadow.

I have another egg pipped! one of the brown ones, NOT the one we were talking about the other day that I was going to toss but a few suggested leaving it until all the others are done.

So today is day 21, one chick is out and only one other egg is pipped. should I be concerned? thinking it was around 3 pm when I set them, maybe next time I'll make sure to set them in the morning?

also, I have another question for you hatching peoples......the one that is out already is one of the AM eggs. I had one that was 10 days old when I set them, is that the one that's out first, or does that matter? I didn't think they actually started developing until the temp got into the high 80's? so it wouldn't really matter if the egg was laid before the others, right? or would it?

No, day 21 can be when they hatch, or it can be when they START hatching.. Like you said, depending on when you set them and whatever they want to do..
