YO GEORGIANS! :)

Wah, How come it's such a beautiful day and I caught a cold and am all stopped up!!!!! I never get sick! It must have been when I went to Newnan and got around all those tons of people!

Allergies are kicking my butt.
Watching the pollen waves blow off the pine trees makes my eyes water!
Hope you feel better soon.

So here is part of daughter's new flock. She is so excited, and we are giving them their own pen later this week (after some pigeons are sold).

Then today I got my 7 CCL chicks, about a week old. Getting GLW pullets from a local-ish feed store later this week, then I should be done adding for a while, maybe...

The silkies I got yesterday are cute enough, but after closer examination, the first 3 of the 5 have cross beak that we are going to try to file a bit. Not sure how I missed it yesterday, except I was so excited about these for the price.
I'm sure I can sell them for what I paid for them, if not a bit more, even with their beaks. They eat fine with them, just not too attractive.
They are in the shipping box the guy gave me with them. It would be a bit tight for most breeds, but the silkies seem calm and not crowded.

Papa, this was at the Newnan Poultry show, not Cliffs TS affair. And, no, it was daylight and I guess I should have asked more questions, like, how old are these eggs and what is your ratio of boys to girls, etc. Being an honest person, I tell people what to expect....like I just sold eggs for half price because I didn't think the fertility would be great and I told them so. Only one roo to 32 hens, well, that's not good odds, but at least I tell people. I just assume other people will do the same!

Hey Flowerbh you know what they say about " assumptions"

I have another egg pipped! one of the brown ones, NOT the one we were talking about the other day that I was going to toss but a few suggested leaving it until all the others are done.

So today is day 21, one chick is out and only one other egg is pipped. should I be concerned? thinking it was around 3 pm when I set them, maybe next time I'll make sure to set them in the morning?

also, I have another question for you hatching peoples......the one that is out already is one of the AM eggs. I had one that was 10 days old when I set them, is that the one that's out first, or does that matter? I didn't think they actually started developing until the temp got into the high 80's? so it wouldn't really matter if the egg was laid before the others, right? or would it?
I just finished my first hatch and can tell you how mine went. I put mine in the turner at 4:00PM Sunday afternoon. On day 19 I took them out of the turner, added more water and locked them down. As soon as I laid them out some eggs were slightly moving. The morning of day 20 there were quite a few pips that morning. At 1:30 that day 2 hatched and one hour later 7 had hatched. The morning of day 21 all eggs were hatched but 3 and they had pipped. 2 more hatched by the end of day 21 and one had died in the shell.
I don't have much experience but the only thing that would have made this better is if the 25th had hatched. My eggs were 5 days old to just out of the nest on the first day.
I wish you the best of luck!

so you didn't lock down until day 19? I don't guess a day really matters, then again it might! Like carcar said, they'll get busy when they're ready. I candled them each as we locked them down, and all but one looked great.

the brown egg that's pipped has a big enough hole to stick it's beak through. it's chirping some and the AM runs over to the divider and stands and looks at it, LOL

it also runs over directly under the window and looks up at me when I go in there to check things too. I think it likes me or something

Nope, I wait til day 19 all the time, whether bc I forget or because they're not ready to lock down.. Heck, one time I even forgot altogether and they hatched IN the turners and plink-o'd down into the hatcher  (I believe Robo has done that too lol)... So that shouldn't make a diff. ;)

Used the money I made at the swap yesterday to buy 6 Lavender Ameraucanas. 5 hens and a rooster. The hens are about 8 months, the rooster is 20 months. WOOHOO!!!
Then I went a bit further up the road and picked up four silkies and a frizzle.
Oh, at the first place I also got talked into 3 Light Sussex, a month old.
And tomorrow, I pick up 7 Crested Cream Legbars.
I think I have a problem.....
sounds great I'm glad you did do well at the swap
