Candled the quail eggs last night (day 10) and only 3 out of 84 looked suspect of not being fertile. Gonna be some serious peep peep going on next weekend.

In other news, I have more boys in my Brown Leghorn group than I originally thought.. Ugh.. But I'm fairly positive I have at least four girls so that's still not terrible.

Flower is right about the appropriate size for adding younguns.. I have a skewed view because I'm always putting littles in with only Brahmas, which are exceptionally easy going. Some other breeds (AM/EE, for example), I'd never put smallish juvies in with.

I woke up to chirping and looked in the incubator and didn't even see a pip. Thought I was imagining things. Checked again and have an Isbar hatched. Have another pipped and a few Orust eggs have pipped. Tomorrow is day 21 so I hope between now and then they all hatch.

GAM just went over to the farm and found a dead kid. We didn't even know we had any pregnant does since we haven't had a buck on the place in over 5 months. Now we're wondering if a whethered goat can impregnate a doe in rare circumstances like a man who's had a vasectomy can sometimes get surprised. And to add to this mystery, the dead kid is colored just like our whether.... hmmmmmmm.....

I am talking to some folks on the goat forum and they said if both testicles had not dropped when he was banded, he could in fact still be able to impregnate does. Which means now we don't know if he's the father of the does we kept. I hope our vet can either confirm or deny his virility.
